Major Drama at Dinner

United States
April 1, 2025 8:18pm CST
We are a group of 11 We had a dinner reservation scheduled for 7 pm tonight at the specialty hibachi grill restaurant. We paid $49 each We got there and were told that our reservation was only for 7 people and that four of us couldn’t go. We asked for a manager. Same answer. One lady in our group went ballistic and shouted and threatened and walked out. Her four friends followed her The other six of us ate in the restaurant. They offered no discount, no free drink, no show of good faith After dinner my friend who is our group leader went to customer service and they also shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do Lots of disappointment

I would never have caused a scene in the dining room. It's too bad you all couldn't dine together..

I would have simply turned around and walked out and let them figure it out that being unaccommodating didn't just cost them $245. It cost them $539. Staying there and letting them have $294 leaves them the winner and then the point doesn't get across.

In this economy especially they may come to regret the poor customer service. Most places I know would have scrambled to accommodate such a large group of paying customers.

That’s incredibly frustrating, but I’m glad to hear you and the ladies you were with conducted yourselves in a classy manner. But wow, those people really messed up with their own poor behavior in how they handled your reservation and the resulting disappointment.

Did everyone have a ticket or proof of some sort? I had a sinking feeling when they picked my washer up: they didn’t ask me to sign anything, so I technically had no proof that they’d picked it up. Thankfully, it wasn’t a problem.

That can be a frustrating situation...especially when there isn't even a bit of sympathy. What happened to the customer is always right!

No way I would have continued to patronize an establishment that did not get it right from the start. Why give them any business at all? In that sense, they win, and no way I'd ever let that happen. "You now have an open table for 7. Good luck getting it filled and selling plates."
