Molly says no.

Many people have heard of the legendary Molly Malone who, according to the song, “wheeled her wheel barrow through streets broad and narrow crying cockles and mussels alive alive o”. The streets were the streets of Dublin, and 37 years ago the city fathers erected a statue of her, to titillate tourists, and she is a fixture on the must-see list of things for foreigners to look at.
Alas and alack, too many tourists have been over-titillated and have been taking liberties with poor Molly. So many wandering hands have groped her ample bosom that her breasts have become discoloured and she’ll need some cosmetic attention.
The solution? Stewards are going to stand guard to say “No” on Molly’s behalf since she can’t speak for herself.
This information was published today, not yesterday which was April Fool’s day, so it’s true. And sad.

That is cool that they put up a statue. If I ever get to Dublin I will have to look her up(and down) haha.

Too many ignorant tourists have destroyed beauty forever. %0 years ago I wandered with my husband through the empty piazza in Venice. The doves were there only ones to say hello. No you cannot see anything but hordes of loud people.

@xFiacre Exactly. And people who have no respect for the places they visit.

Poor Molly.
I've seen oddities that get groped isn't quite the word I want... maybe "handled" is better... by people passing by, sort of like they're drawn to touch them. When I was growing up on the farm, we had a corner post standing by itself as you walked into the yard from the dirt road. (I guess there used to be a gate there and that post was all that remained.) The top of the post was brass. Any time someone passed that post, they'd put their hand on the brass part and kind of give it a rub... It stayed shiny and bright instead of tarnishing like you might expect from it being out in all weather.

We have a photo of Molly but we didn't take liberties.
