We're gonna just throw the poor under the bus but THE TARIFFS WILL WORK!

April 4, 2025 12:08pm CST
Please. Anyone pro-tariff needs (redacted in the interests of maintaining an account here). And I mean that with all my little black heart. My opinion is Trump supporters are traitors to America and they will likely burn when he does. I have a firm belief that retribution is coming. Have a day.

Thank you! I've been trying to think of a "nice" way to say the same things but couldn't think of any so have remained silent...

The tarrifs are hitting hard. Even Indian stock market showed a steep downfall in the recent times, and the huge tarrif is the main cause. Sooner or later, it's going to backfire for the US too.

@xander6464 Yes, the market is collapsing there too. It might lead to another Great depression there, many experts fear so. Inflation would be the immediate effect, I think that it has started showing up already there.

He makes me a very sad person. He needs to drop the tariff nonsense, they do not help anyone.

I hope you're right about the retribution is coming. And that it gets here soon. I'm over 30 now, and I'd like to see it in my lifetime.

@scarred4lyfe Don’t worry. The UK is planning to stop him in his tracks by applying a tariff on pure bred horses exported to the US. That’ll show him.

The tariffs won't work. Anyone with 2 functioning brain cells to rub together knows this. Our economy, retirement accounts, and bank accounts are effed.

Tariffs seem such a huge step backward. Counter productive on most counts, especially between us and Canada, or Mexico. I see predictions of everything collapsing, and I am inclined to believe it will happen.

Trump's grand experiment at the expense of the American public (and the rest of the world really) is going to go down in flames, just like it did for William McKinley over 100 years ago. Of course, Trump wouldn't know that. He barely knows who he is.

Trump knows nothing of history, of reality. His last trade war cost the US a lot of money because if China doesn't buy the soy beans, there is no market. Brasil sold all their beans to China, creating a new market and trading partner. My country bought some of America's soybeans for virtually nothing, fed them to chickens which caused the price of chicken to go down. The last time he did his China targeted Trade War, China bought every lobster we had, since it would not buy from Maine, on and on. We don't have to sell or buy from the US... we can do some stuff ourselves and find other markets. These tariffs will hurt America more than other countries

I am thinking of what Biden did before he left office. All the people he gave outs under the law to just incase Trump wanted to be vengeful. Trump can do the same thing before he leaves office. That is if he does leave office. So all his cronies will get a free ticket. Have a day yourself.

Couldn’t believe that the stock market lost 5% today (Friday 4/4). I mean, I can believe it, but I thought it’d take a week, not a day.

From what we're hearing from supposedly reliabel sources is that he is slowly but surely turning the US into a dictatorship which is surely even worse news, for its citizens, than tariffs.

I would rather governments stop giving incentives to have more kids than introduce tariffs this way. Out here, the need to divide the constituencies for electing to parliament is based on number of people in a place. But we have more uneducated folks in he northern and eastern parts of the country than southern regions. Consequently, we in South work hard pay taxes, those in North get to elect people who rule...simply because southern folks are going for one child or two child norm. That is prompting governments to consider incentives to increase population in the south. That is pathetic. India is overpopulated. And our leaders rush to other nations seeking jobs, visas, aid, etc. primarily because of this lone factor. Why then should we increase our numbers? There are no jobs waiting for them, with as much computerization as has happened. At least not enough well paying jobs to let them pay rent, and have decent life including old age. Having more unemployed folks only increases the risk of riots and crimes. Whatever...governments are not coming up with right policies. So India imposes tariffs....ok...25 percent ..ok... 1 dollar is equal to 85 plus.... If you all don't, you all are not at loss, if we don't we will bleed financially. But even so, it was Harley Davidson factor that worked up Mr. Thumb. There are very few Indians who would opt for a Harley Davidson. It is beyond their budget even without tariffs. Those who can, wouldn't dream of having more than 1. They would opt for Mercedez, Volkswagon, or Rolls Royce etc. Those vehicles spare them heat and rain botheration, and safer. Harley Davidson being a high end product, cannot afford to put up show rooms in average places. So rents are high in such places...profitability does not work out. India does not have lot of roads where you can ride on two wheelers like that and enjoy the ride. Nor is our climate that great. The person would sweat profusely in most places. How then can he expect businesses like that to flourish out here. There has to be analysis ..deep analysis...understanding of Indian thinking and Indian way of living. An average Indian would not move out at a drop of hat. They would try to combine two or three chores. Outing and visiting is rare. Shopping is all at walking distance so no need to pull out a vehicle. An average Indian woman does not drive. What is he so cut up about? Sell us products that we'd be happy with. Set up industries to produce detergents and stuff like that, of better quality. Likewise, mopping and sweeping devices. Those will work, because average consumer uses such stuff. Turnover will give him the required returns, even with tariffs. Good paints, long lasting water proofing material....all that will sell...not Harley Davidson... All I am saying is ...wrong product mix is the cause for the disparity. Not our Tariffs.
