Let's Talk About Accountability: U.S. and Canada

It's incredibly sad to me that people will not do the research into why decisions are made by our Government and/or President, especially the current one--Donald Trump. Because of their hatred for him and their political affiliation they are blinded by what's truly taken place. Let's take a look at what actually happened that led to the breakdown of our relationship with Canada. President Trump asked Canada to close their border to narco-traffickers. The Canadian govt. chose not to and did not close their border. President Trump asked the Canadian government to remove trade tariffs, remove non-tariff trade barriers, and initiate reciprocal trade. The Canadian govt chose not to. President Trump asked the Canadian govt to stop being a pass-through for Chinese goods that violates the USMCA. The Canadian govt chose not to. President Trump asked the Canadian govt to open access to U.S. banks and financial services. The Canadian govt said no. President Trump asked the Canadian govt to live up to the NATO commitment of 2.5% GDP spending on military defense. The Canadian govt said no, you will defend us free of charge like always and basically just accept it. Now, members of the Canadian government are saying they want to "inflict the maximum amount of pain on Americans possible." Canada destroyed most of their heavy industry and chases the climate change hoax in all economic policies. They are destroying themselves. Canada imported Steel and Aluminum from China, then shipped it into the USA, undercutting U.S. industry and trying to weaken U.S. heavy industry to match their own level of dependence. President Trump said ENOUGH! So let me get this right-- Because President Trump is holding them accountable and asking them to contribute equally or pay the tariffs, they are mad. Because President Trump is trying to protect and help America, you are mad? Would you do the same and protect your family or be complaining if this was a problem between you and a neighbor perhaps? It is time for everyone to stop focusing on political BS and biased media and look at the big picture. Really do your research and look into all the facts. I think it would be a damn shame if the US and Canada were no longer friends.

I agree! But we can't continue to help every other country and not impose a tax on them when we are paying their tariffs. It's only fair (trade).

What kind of a friend has Canada really been though? Think about it. They are like the "friend" who keeps coming over to borrow stuff from your garage they never return. That's not really a friend. That is someone who is simply taking advantage of your generosity.

Tell me about it. Americains, especially those who have decided they hate Trump, have already decided he's up to no good. Nevermind that he's trying to save the income of millions of Americans who rely on Tiktok. Never mind, that counteries like Canada refuse to work with Americains, but want hand outs from us. One simple website breaks down everything every president has done..... but nope. If they believed that prices would drop overnight, well that's delusional thinking. Things are going to get worse before they improve. And, that's just pure common sense logic.

Exactly. It will take time and we are moving in the right direction. We have four years of Biden idiocracy to correct. It will take some time. Also, those complaining of no jobs--look at the jobs the new manufacturing plants will bring it!! We don't need to rely on other countries. We should be self sufficient!

@kareng Like we used to be. Don't get me wrong, trade is a good thing. Building a strong structure with our neighbors, especially those physically attached to us, is important. But, we need to be able to take care of ourselves.

And just how many presidents have stood up to them in the past? Nobody has like Trump has.

I refuse to blame Canada for this. I do not consider Trump to be intelligent enough to act responsibly and thoughtfully let alone morally.

You are entitled to your opinion. I would not base my opinions of things you read in the media though.

@sallypup The media, are often bias and always have been to an extent. They are trying to sell the content to get the viewership. Often times they don't look at both sides of the coin, and focus on the narative that'll draw the most attention.

It will be a crying shame if we lose our relationship with our neighbor to the north.

@porwest @LindaOH The media has not been forthcoming about a lot of things in the last 4 years! That's a big part of the problem. Democrats bought into it all and believe it all 100%.

Beware the "friendly neighbor" who keeps coming over to borrow things from your garage who never returns them. That's exactly the relationship we have had for decades with Canada. Unfortunately, the news media is not being forthcoming about the details regarding exactly what that relationship has looked like.

@kareng It's been going on with the media for much longer than that. That being said, I think Americans have begun to catch on to the lies. I mean, look how hard the media tried to sink Trump and all they did was make him bigger and stronger than ever. I think even MSNBC MAY have finally gotten the hint as they slowly fire nearly anyone who was spilling lies about Trump and what was really going on. Hell, look at CNN's numbers. Is anyone even watching anymore?

I use to stay on top of all this, but since I've been home from all my health issues I've gotten away from most of it I can't understand why people don't get the concept of working together to make every country, state strong. I just wish things were better & stop all this mess so people can enjoy life & make the world a better place.

When people stop rioting because they don't like what the current President is doing to make our country safer and better, that may be able to happen. But right now, we need to move forward the best we can and leave the haters to hate. That's what they have chosen. When they cross the line, they will be arrested.

The shame is that every single point you made here is absolutely TRUE. Yet, once again, we are perpetually plagued by a news media that simply refuses to accurately report the news, choosing instead to paint false pictures and create false narratives, all in a coordinated effort to stymie the information flow and make Trump look like the bad guy here. Canada's media is complicit in this as well as they see Trump as an opportunity to "make a valid point" where there is none to be made. They can simply rely on TDS and tell a multitude of lies and essentially, they will get away with it, and they know they can. Not just from Canada, but from so many other countries, America has simply been taken advantage of, and admittedly, that's in large part because we have allowed this to happen—until now, of course. Even with the Liberation Day tariffs Trump imposed, many people are unaware that these are reciprocal tariffs imposed on countries who were already imposing tariffs on US. Thus, the word, "reciprocal." But again, the media remains silent about the truth, telling only half-truths about what's actually going on here. The odd thing about all of this is that Trump is being portrayed as a bully. The reality is that America is the one who has been bullied by the rest of the world, and all Trump is doing, is standing up to the TRUE bullies.

That's 100% right. So many were blinded by the media in the past four years and brainwashed into believing false news and reporting. This is sad news. People need to shake their heads and clear their minds and have an open mind. Then go do some research and put the facts together.
