Along with the celebration of songs that, like me, are turning 65 this year, I’m looking back 60 years to the songs from 1965. There’s been everything already in the list, and it’s only a week old! Let’s have a little levity with today’s singalong.
I’m Henry the Eighth, I Am - Herman’s Hermits
Now, I said this wouldn’t be country, but here’s a surprise for you: the B-side of this big hit was their cover of Skeeter Davis’ major hit “The End of the World.” It’s actually a pretty good version.
But this is the one that everyone sings along with. Herman’s Hermits had a lot of great songs in their career, such as “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” “A Must to Avoid” (which, as a kid, I sang as “a muscular boy”
), and “A Kind of Hush.” This one gets all the jokes, though.
As it should: although this particular version is now 60 years old, the song actually goes back to 1910 and a British music hall singer named Harry Champion. It’s always been sung with that Cockney accent (with “Henry” pronounced Henery)…even by us when we sang along!!
So sing along again. And if the oldies show comes to town (we get it every year at the state fair), go see it. Peter Noone, the front man, is still out there singing this!

Yes, I've heard that one before... Maybe in a movie?
Is his name No one? or Noon?

Noone. Like “no one” shoved together into one word.
And what do you mean you’ve heard it??? That’s three this month!!!

@DaddyEvil — that’s how it’s pronounced. Spelled “Noone.” Sorry, didn’t realize you were asking for the pronunciation.

@FourWalls Yeah, I could see the spelling but couldn't figure out what the announcer was saying.

@FourWalls In my opinion Herman Herms are underrated.

I remember when this song came out. Sort of corny.

Peter Noone has a great voice, and I’m sure he is still doing the rounds.
Herman’s Hermits had lots of great songs out in the 60’s, but I’m not a fan of this one. Sorry!
Give me: My Sentimental Friend, or Silhouettes, any day. And I’m with you on “A Must to Avoid”. I think I thought the same!

This is obviously not “A Kind of Hush.” This is a silly song, and I’ll admit that it doesn’t stand repeated listens well.

Ah, yes. Always reminds me of one of the funniest scenes. There I am blubbering my way through the ,movie Ghost and then Patrick Swayze as the ghost keep singing the song to Whoopie Goldberg just hilarious,

Evidently I'm a 60's expert. I know both song and artist yet again.
