Good idea or not?

I got this idea the other day to gather all the poetry that I’ve written and put it into one book. The book would be divided into sections based on the decade the poems were written.
Most of the poems have already been published in my other books, so I’m not sure if this is a good idea or a bad one. What do you think?

It might be a good idea, I have two published books of poems on Amazon and since that time I have so many other poems floating around that gathering everything together might be a good plan.

@TheHorse Not sure but I think unless you get lucky you won’t become rich from it.

Aside from some new stuff everything else is already published in my other books so I’m republishing it essentially. That’s why I’m not sure if I should do this or not.

I think it's a good idea. Maybe it will sell better that way. Good luck!

That would be awesome if that were the case.

@TheHorse You could self-publish. It's expensive but that's what I finally did with my children's book in rhyme.

@lovebuglena You wouldn't want to publish your life poems now if you are still writing them! Why not divide into topics and publish?

@kareng if I combine all my poems in one book I’d probably separate it by decade.

What do you mean by commentary in this case?

@lovebuglena Commentary by you about how the poems came to be. I have published a small (very small) handful of poems, but they were in poetry journals with no contextual information. I don't think I am "popular" enough that anyone would be interested in where the poems came from.

@TheHorse It’d be interesting to do a story behind a poem. Problem is may he hard to remember what led to each one.

I think it would be good to have them all in one volume for me but not sure what readers would think.

@TheHorse You never know. And if you can make something from your poetry why not?

It's been done before when an author has published a complete work. You can even call it something like that. "The Complete Works of Lena Kovadlo." You could even call it, "Through the Years," by Lena Kovado: Her Complete Works. Lots of options, here.

I realized that. Poets of the past have a huge volume of all or most of their poems. I’m no popular or revered poet but I should be able to do the same thing.

@lovebuglena You never know, a complete work compilation MIGHT get more people "in the know."

If you add some new ones to it that sounds like a good read.

I have a few stored in a folder but when you say wanting to put yours in a book I can imagine the number that you have composed. Since you have used some of them already I wonder if putting them in a book wuld be a good idea

I remember seeing books from poets where it’s a collection of all their poetry so it’s been done before.

Thank you. Yeah me too. Wish my books brought me good income. Sadly, they don’t. Heck, I made nothing last year.

Wow! GO for it whatever feels like new but promising! One of my dreams is to publish a book too. I might start with my self-story of experiences. Can you give tips on how to start and what publishing books for newbies like me?

Do you want to self-publish or go through a traditional publisher?
