Why??

A company called Colossal Biosciences is reportedly bringing us Dire Wolf puppies through the magic of DNA. The puppies are 4 feet long and will reach 6 feet tall as adults. They are genetically engineered gray wolves.
The dire wolves went extinct 13000 years ago, but scientists extracted DNA from fossilized remains and mixed it with gray wolf DNA..
They will try to bring wooly mammoths and wooly mice back to life next.
My question is why. Why do we need 6-foot animals that eat things like horses? Will these experiments turn on us in unexpected ways? Is it ethical to do things like this? What do you think?

In my opinion, scientists should be working to keep the animals we have on Earth NOW from going extinct and they can worry about the ones that have gone extinct when they figure out how to stop people from poaching the ones we still have. (I'm sorry, but if scientists could devise a way for the poachers to die instead of an animal they tried to poach, I'd be cheering them on! I know I'm not nice but there's no reason to keep killing animals they don't need for food. And calling animal parts "medicine" is ignorant!)

I read about this yesterday. Very Jurassic Park like....there is a reason those animals are extinct. They have plans to do more...will dinosaurs walk the earth once more?? Somehow I don't think this will end up being a good thing to do.

I have no desire to have to deal with some of these animals. I feel this could all be a disaster waiting to happen.

Now I know why god didn't make me unusual ...I would be extinct someday, and people who have nothing better to do will try to revive me...for nothing...Sigh...
Ethical be damned...we don't know what sort of disease they can get, what food they need, whether they can devour humans....
I agree with you, governments should stop sanction of funds, and declare such research as illegal.

This is a bad idea. Why not work on preserving those animals that are endangered or put that money toward stopping ivory poachers from killing all the elephants....Dozens of ways to use that money.

I have watched it in news channels. I don't think it was so necessary. They should rather find out ways to save the animals we have now from extinction.

@akalinus You are right. We now need to save animals and birds that exist .. These poor creatures need our protection. Those we ceased to exist thousands of years ago; are gone.We needn't bring them back.
