The theme for my music group on Facebook today is “old.” Someone posted “Old and In the Way.” Sometimes I feel that way. Not today, though. I’m raring to go and give you another song that’s classic, not old.
Here’s today’s song that, like me, is now 65.
Mission Bell - Donnie Brooks
Yes, Donnie Brooks did have other hits. In fact, he was significant enough to be inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. But, like a lot of the people from the 50s and early 60s, he’s been relegated to one song.
But oh, what a song! This is one of those great love songs from the more innocent, happy-go-lucky days of early rock and roll. And it still sounds great.
Mission Bell
Written by William Michael and Jesse Hodges
Recorded by Donnie Brooks
From The Happiest, 1960

They were, it was more of a “love” profession and less of the “lust” we get these days.

Glad you remembered it. I was scared that I’d been the only one after seeing all the other answers.

Those were the days! Poor Donnie tried to get in on it, too.
