Spare a thought for sea creatures.

I sat in the sunshine up at Skernaghan Point this afternoon, well away from the frivolity of the beach where pasty white bodies were all turning crimson. There were sheep in the paddock, loads of them, all bleating. One enormous mother of twins eyed me with suspicion and indignation and she intimidated me a bit. A deep rumbly hum sounded and it neither me, a sheep nor a crimson beach goer; it was the low churning of the ferry arriving from Scotland. I photographed it through the brambles as you can see, and felt for the sea life being disturbed by the metal leviathan groaning loudly.

I read somewhere, and I recognize this is not a fact, that whales were beaching themselves because of the sound pollution in the water. I hate that the thought is in my head.

@ambiepam I’m sure the noise of ferries is quite detrimental to sea life. The booming sound of the engines travels for quite a distance.

@xFiacre It makes me sad to think about. I mean, we can do things to make the sounds we hear more bearable…they can’t.

Such noise and movement has to be disturbing.
