What a year 1965 was! Have you noticed the wide variety of things we’ve had thus far…and we still have half the month to go!! Country, soul…and of course, the British Invasion. That’s where we land today as I continue to celebrate my birthday this month with other songs having a birthday this year. This one is turning 60!
Over and Over - Dave Clark Five
I doubt anyone noticed at the time, because they were too busy dancing and buying records; however, when the dust settled, the Dave Clark Five were one of the biggest British bands of the 60s not named Beatles or Rolling Stones. The list of hits is long and impressive: “Catch Us If You Can,” “Glad All Over,” “Because,” and this, their only US #1 hit.
Here they took a song written and originally recorded by Bobby Day (who also wrote “Little Bitty Pretty One,” used earlier in the 1960 countdown) and gave us a great, fun version that still sounds great 60 years later.
Dave Clark, the namesake of the DC5, is still living, along with lead guitarist Lenny Davidson. The DC5 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, deservedly so.
Rock on!

And wait for her steady date:

Those were the days, and you made a playlist by stacking five 45s on the spindle.

They had some great hits, but that one wasn’t big over here. Their biggest hit here was “Glad All Over”, which made No.1. I think my favourite is “Bits And Pieces”, but I liked/like most of their songs. Lots of great British bands in the 60’s and this was one of them.

We took anything with a British accent over here during Beatlemania. Lorene Greene would never have had a hit named “Ringo” any other era.

I remember the big competition between the DC5 and the Beatles. It was like going to a Browns and Steelers game.
