Have you known couples who were totally different in personality? I used to have a boss who was a very talkative, loquacious fellow. He liked to talk to everyone and about everything. He was the type of person that if you saw him in a hallway or something you knew you would get involved in a lengthy chat. Anyway, one time I met his wife at a party. She was the quietest little thing ever. Talk about opposites. They had been married for quite some time though..I guess it worked for them. Have you known couples who were very different in personality?

Yes but most of the time it didn't work out.

totally different personalities, needs or values can make for a bumpy ride. The values one is especially important to consider, but they all are.

Yes, my parents were like that. Dad would talk to anyone and everyone he came in contact with while mom was usually cooking or reading... They were married for 30-something years before dad had a heart attack and passed away.

My parents are both pretty quiet, although both like to chat with people they feel comfortable with. My dad has lots of stories to tell even with his dementia. He can still carry a conversation, and he can read..although he might forget what he read two minutes later.

@snowy22315 Both my parents are gone now. Dad when I was 15 and mom passed in 2002. Dad always told stories from when he was younger and a LOT of stories about his different kids growing up.

Oh, my parents. My dad is country, outgoing, a ham, and generous to a fault. My mom was city, quiet, demure, had a dry wit, and was wisely generous. They were totally opposite on everything but Jesus.

Some compliment each other and it works, others not so much I think.

I think this happens quite often. Vince loves to chat to everyone. I used to be really quiet and still prefer to be but I do chat more now if the situation calls for it. Vince will talk to anyone.

well the talking thing is one thing, but if you are compatible in other areas, I guess that is the most important, unless the talking drives the other party nuts or something.

@snowy22315 Sometimes I excuse myself and walk off. Some of his stories I only need to hear a certain number of times.

I think opposites might have longer marriages than those couples with the same personalities. Imagine both husband and wife with stubborn personalities.

I think it depends on what else they agree on and what they are compatible with.

My husband and I were quite different; and we were together for 58 years.
