The primroses are taking over!

Not that I’m complaining, as I love them! But these little spring flowers, which people tend to regard as delicate little plants, are in fact tough survivors given half a chance. As you can see we have allowed them to make themselves at home in the grass and they are seizing the opportunity and taking over! They do get mowed every now and then, although less often then a ‘usual’ lawn. I have tried to encourage them to stay in the flower beds but although there are some large clumps in there they seem to prefer the grass and are continually spreading out. They seed along the edges of the paths as well. Whenever I just have too many or find them in awkward places like in the path or the vegetable patch I dig some out and either pot them up for sale at the next fund-raising sale or move them to the grass verges where the village wildlife group are trying to encourage more colourful wild flowers. Hopefully I can spread a little joy when people see their cheerful little faces All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

Some people only like 'law and order' in the garden but I think flowers in lawns and here, there and everywhere are very cheering.

I love their splashes of colour everywhere and the bumblbees enjoy them too.

@Fleura I never mind jacaranda flowers all over the sidewalks either but others have to sweep them up at every opportunity.

What a beautiful sight that must be even though they are usurping spaces all around

I like them, obviously. And I like the way they sometimes turn up in different shades

Beautiful! And it naturally made me think of the song “Primrose Lane.”

@fleura We only have one and it’s in the middle of a grassy area that I refuse to call a lawn.

You will notice that I didn't refer to our grass as a lawn either!

@Fleura My plans for retirement never included mowing.

Oh, we had those at the last house... I ignored them for the most part. They were trying to take over along the street before the city dozed that area to widen the street. They weren't one of the flowers I dug up to bring along with us here.
