One of the amazing things about this countdown is seeing how many great songs are turning the same age that I am!! Talk about an all-time classic, we have one today! Back to 1960 for this gem!
Shop Around - The Miracles
Is there anything I can say about this song? Well, yes: do NOT accidentally listen to the Captain and Tennille’s version. That’s something you can’t un-hear.
This is not only a really good song, it was a significant milestone. This was the first #1 song, and the first million-seller, for the Motown group of labels. This got us dancing to the Detroit sound. And we haven’t stopped since.
Thanks, Smokey.

Oh, sure, you know the older song. The newer one? “Nope.”

I actually heard the Captain & Tennille version first, but after hearing Smokey, there’s no comparison. Glad it was on the oldies stations in the 70s.

I never heard their version, thankfully, never liked them to begin with.

I remember the Captain and Tennille cover of the hit song but I did not that Smokey Robinson and The Miracles originally released before I was born a year later.

Especially when it comes to eggs!
So thankful I’m allergic to eggs.
