Awrite!! The doctor’s appointment is out of the way, and I’m FREE until April 29, when my brother has rotator cuff surgery. Where will I go? What will I do? Probably not much. But I will give you another song that comes from 1960. Sing along with this one. Stay - Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs Since I’m the same age as this song, I didn’t hear it when it originally came out. My first encounter with the song was in 1977, when Jackson Browne stuck it on the end of his tribute to his roadies, “The Load-Out,” to close out Running on Empty. The “Stay” part was released as a single (although the FM rock stations always played it and “The Load-Out” together). Now, the funny thing about this song is that it’s as old as I am AND as old as my brother…and no, we aren’t twins. Maurice Williams wrote this song originally in 1953 (the year my brother was born) after trying to convince a date to not go home by her allotted curfew time. He and his doo-wop group, the Zodiacs, didn’t get around to recording it until 1960. This was their only hit, although Williams had other success as a songwriter. Most notably, he wrote “Little Darlin’,” the big hit by the Diamonds. He died last year at the age of 86, active until the end. Clocking in at 1:36, this is one of the shortest #1 songs in history! Stay Written by Maurice Williams Recorded by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs Released as a single, 1960 Your daddy don’t mind:

I have heard this song but haven’t heard it played in years! I am sure your itchy feet are anxious to hit the road. Maybe you can just take a short trip or two for now until your brother has his surgery and can care for himself.

I’m hoping to go to the Smokies for a couple of days after the weekend. I want to stay close, in case they call him and tell him they’ve had a cancelation and can reschedule his surgery. Glad to bring this one back to you.

@FourWalls That would be nice for you to be able to have a little get-a-way beforehand.

They were a doo-wop group, so it’s got a completely different sound.

You’re right, lots of people have covered this. The Jackson Browne version was actually the first I’d heard.

It is. I enjoy the sweet ode to the fans that Jackson did, but this original is just perfect innocent love.
