From doo-wop we go to mid-60s soul as I continue to celebrate my birthday by celebrating the birthdays of great music. This side of the countdowns is dedicated to 60-year-old music. Dancing is mandatory to this one!
Uptight (Everything’s Alright) - Stevie Wonder
One of the amazing things about these countdowns is seeing how many people could be (or actually are) on multiple years’ lists. Stevie Wonder could be on 1975 and 1985 as well. It seems like he’s been around forever, even though he’s only 74 (he’ll be 75 next month). That’s one of the marks of a legend.
The long list of hits you can rattle off from him is another mark. This is one of his great mid-60s Motown R&B songs guaranteed to get your toes to tapping.
Uptight (Everything’s Alright)
Written by Stevie Wonder, Sylvia Moy, and Henry Cosby
Recorded by Stevie Wonder
From Up-Tight, 1965
I know I’m just an average guy:

I remember seeing Stevie in the late 60s in a small venue called Leo's Casino. Stevie had to get written permission from Cleveland to perform because he was so young.

Wow! They used to call him “Little Stevie Wonder” because he was so young. I think he was 13 when he had “Fingertips” as a hit.

@FourWalls I hated Motown. It was forced on me as a "tween."
