I have to admit I am a big fan of these shows, but sometimes you really have to question their horrible decision making. One guy was hiking by himself in the Sierra"s, although some people knew what trail he had started off on they didn't know for certain where he was. It snowed fairly heavily and it was only September. He was wondering if should turn around and go back butike a dummy he pressed on, and ended up falling 30 or 40 feet breaking his wrist and hurting his spine Naturally, his water was lost in the fall. He did have a tent and limited survival supplies. These people never carry enough food and usually manage to lose their water..not that there is ever enough of that either Anyway, he almost froze..and the planes trying to find him were in the other side of the mountain. Very luckily a friend of his knew where the trail was and came to the conclusion the rescue planes were flying i On the wrong side. Miraculously he was saved. These shows are all a lesson of what not to do while in the great outdoors with hostile weather conditions.

I have seen few such shows and it gives me goosebumps. I get some anxiety pangs too. One has to be well prepared for these hostile weather conditions, but then no amount of preparedness will ever be enough.

I think a good rule of thumb is to take at least two or 3 times what you think you will need, because you never can tell. Also, have a satellite phone so you can be located no matter where you are

I get mad at the people who do these things. I think about the people risking their lives to look for them when they displayed no sense.

I suppose that's why they are called survival shows. I watch them too and l also wonder about the mistakes people make - but if they didn't we won't see how they managed to survive. One mistake l would never make is going into a wildérness alone. At least half a dozen people or more must be in that party.
