Last Saturday, after we had returned from Disney, surveyed the damage from an unexpected hailstorm that hit the area, and did a quick/brief cleanup of debris, we decided to head out to an arts festival presented by a local college. Following the terrible weather on Friday (that we thankfully missed because we were out of town at Disney World), the weather on Saturday was absolutely gorgeous and perfect: clear, sunny skies, low humidity, and just cool enough out to need a hoodie/sweatshirt to start the day. It was just the perfect day to be outside. The arts festival, which consistently ranks as one of the tops in the nation, did not disappoint. And although there were dozens of tents/booths that were damaged in the previous night's hailstorm, for the most part all the artists and vendors had recovered nicely and were in good spirits. And it looked like the crowd was too, as people were buying up art left and right. I always make it a point to buy at least one thing every time I go to an art festival. It's my way of supporting the arts. This year, in honor of the University of Florida mens basketball team winning the national championship, I was hoping to find some beautiful Gator artwork that I could take home and proudly display. As I walked around the hundreds of booths, I saw so much beautiful art, and many pieces that I was definitely interested in buying. But no luck on finding that perfect Gator piece that I so desired. But my luck soon changed. Right as we were about to leave, out of the corner of my eye I spotted what I had been looking for! As soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to have it, and it was like it was calling my name: "Jeff, buy me, take me home, display me proudly!" In the photo, you can see the piece of artwork I purchased. It's a wood carving of the logo of the University of Florida, and I have it displayed in my home office on the wall facing my desk, so that I can admire it every time I sit at my computer.
