I Guess I'll Have to Eat My Words

When I got the food allergy testing a couple of months ago, I was hoping really hard that I'd be allergic to chocolate since it's an out-of-control addiction that I have. If I were allergic to chocolate, so I thought, then I couldn't eat it anymore and that problem would go away. Then I got the allergy test results and chocolate (cacao) was not one of them, nor was milk, even though I already knew I had a lactose intolerance with milk items. Fast forward and my allergic reactions are coming fast and furious to things I wasn't allergic to before, . . . INCLUDING CHOCOLATE! Well, it's the milk in chocolate I think. It's turned from an intolerance (digestive) into an allergy (reaction) with red itchy tingling mouth and face. Now, you'd think that would have answered my hopes, right? Well, stupid me still can't stop eating the chocolate even though it's hurting me. I'll eat it and then suffer and have to take a benadryl. I'm hoping I'll wise up by the end of this weekend and QUIT CHOCOLATE!

i wish you the very best in your fight against chocolate, How about this fact I read today. Almost every chocolate bar has some insect legs in it. The guy writing this said at least that is protein.

Many foods have insect parts in them. It's nearly impossible in some cases to wash them all off and know that they are gone.

Those are words I would eat. If I was to be told I was allergic to chocolate I would buy a bar and eat it to see if there were any bad after effects. If there were any, I know me and I would still eat it. No point me saying I would stop because I just wouldnt. Would Dark Chocolate be an option you might consider. I wouldnt because Dark Chocolate just doesn't do it for me.

Your chocolate addiction is like my Coca-Cola addiction without the consequences.

@looeyville I just don’t know what to say to that! Find a new addiction?

I would find it hard to give up chocolate completely.

Have to say that keeping chocolate under control is an uphill desk! I am getting better at it, but sometimes...

Well, I wonder if this a case of a psycosamatic disorder. You tried/wanted to be Alergic to chocolate so much, alergic reactions started to appear. You would think continued exposure wouldn't be cured so easily with benydral.

I used to love chocolate too, but then 1 day I woke up and no longer wanted any of it. I still like it, but don't seek to have any. I hope that you have that occur. Just rid yourself of it in your home and don't replace it.

Have the doctor help you work out a healthy diet. If you must have your chocolate, get those tiny little chocolate bars. Allow yourself ONE every day. Just one. You've tried to quit eating it completely and that never works for you, so just allow that one tiny piece per day instead. Your cravings are not going to change.
