I’m getting nervous.

I wanted to earn some extra money, so when my sister was looking for people to help with state competition, I crossed my fingers I could sit upright for three straight hours and said I’d do it (state competition is for those in our denomination who will go to compete nationally this summer against the other state winners of our denomination). I said I’d be a runner, which is just sitting in the room with the children waiting, and calling them in one at a time. Easy $75 on a Friday. Did I want $75 more to do Saturday? Sure (this pays for a whole month of that new medicine)! Well, a drama judge dropped out, and I’m now 1 of the 3 drama judges (subjects to compete in are various music categories, sign language, drama, art, memorization) instead of just a runner. My only qualification is that I took drama in college. Yep, not much qualification. I was assured I could just judge on the technical aspect, which is black and white there is no real opinion. The other two judges can really “judge”. I mean the music judges have music degrees, the sign language judges obviously know sign language…although my sister is up a creek with the sign language judges. One dropped out, and as you might expect, it’s not easy to find those people who will drop their plans to come do that. They have someone who is more than qualified, but her daughter is competing, so she is prohibited from judging. I feel nervous about the kids! And, I’ll be seeing so many people I haven’t laid eyes on in 20 years. Mostly, I just want to make sure I don’t somehow screw up.

Take a deep breath or two and have faith that you will do fine. You may be overthinking it and letting anxiety take control. You got this.

I have faith in you Amber and once you get in the swing of things you'll have a good time. I'm glad you decided to participate and I'm sure your sister is happy that you're there too.

I think she is. I know Amyra is excited because she’s going to be a runner. She broke her phone, and now this will help her get closer to paying for the repairs. The first time she broke it my sister didn’t make her pay for it. The second time she was like, this is all you girl!

@AmbiePam Good for your sister making Amyra pay for her phone. She'll learn a good lesson by working to pay for it herself.

I am sure it will be fine, and you will end up enjoying yourself. However, I know it is anxiety provoking to do something so out of your norm. All you can do is your best. I am sure it will go fine. How are things with the new med? Is it helping significantly, or can't you tell yet?

Thanks, snowy. You make me feel better. I think the new medicine really is starting to work, but it’s causing nausea I didn’t expect. I went with OTC for a few weeks, but last week I asked for a prescription nausea medicine, and it has helped.

It's just natural to get nervous. But it will soon subside once you are already at the activity. Everyone will be so busy with their own part so relax and enjoy the event. Everything will be okay.
