More Fraud

It is my daily routine to open my cell and check my emails. I have been getting emails for the last several months from some weird email address trying to get me to update my Cloud account, that I am out of space. Well, first off I have no Cloud account and second I don't use those storage places. I don't trust them and I use a thumb drive which has worked great for about 15 years now. And, I clear out my laptop of pictures and data every few days. They are telling me every day that this is my last and final notice. So humorous. But, today the Dark Web seems to have added something new to the mix. Today I get a notice that Norton 360 is going to be charging my account $449 for me to be re-instated with their coverage as my account supposedly renews every two years. I have not used them in many years. The laptop I have now is one that I don't need virus protection. And I always found Norton too expensive and would use McAfee more recently. But haven't had any for about 5 years now. And, this message had no last four digits of a card being used or anything like that I would expect to see. Oh, and there was a PDF file attached too. No, we did not click on it. No, No, No! The funny thing is that if you look at the return email on any fraud messages you will notice that usually there is a weird address like jerrylewis@gmail.com or something. Not a business. But, I had my grandson check it out just incase. He confirmed that it was a fraud. I'm so past sick of getting this kind of drivle. I also get a bit of a chill that runs through me when I get one. I have to calm myself and look for any red flags like my grandson has taught me. But, I still have him check it out to be doubly sure. Nowadays, a person has to be an expert fraud detector. Anything new and exciting happen in your life today?

@celticeagle Hubby just got an ugly spam message. It was a fake email from some church friends- supposedly their niece was horribly hurt and could we get them a DoorDash card for her? Their debit card wasn't working and could we do it? He called the friend and found everybody was fine and it was bogus.

Most of my fraud goes into Spam and then I delete. What gets past I block whatever address.

@celticeagle I got that demand for $499 as well. A legitimate request from a legitimate company would have been in £ not $.

Make sure to tell your bank NOT to pay Norton. If they request a payment do you have to approve it? McAfee started sending my friend similar messages and his computer was getting pop ups every 10 minutes hassling him to subscribe to them again and telling him his computer was full of Trojans. I phoned them up for him and told them that I had checked his computer out fully and that there were no Trojans or anything else and that he wouldn't be subscribing to them again. I told them if he received one more pop up or demand for money he would put a lawyer on their case. They removed his details from their database The pop ups stopped So did the demands for money. He is a 74 year old disabled man who got a brain I jury and was in a coma. At one point in the conversation I had to tell their agent not to speak at all until I told him he could. I couldn't believe that a legitimate company like McAfee would act like that. It freaked him out. Exciting event in my life today, went to the beach tonight. Yay for us and we had a visit to a Chip Shop.

No. My bank is very good, and I have worked with them before in such matters. In this day and age, nothing much surprises me anymore. I am amazed at what the Dark Web can do. And now with AI. Gheez! Sounds like you've had a fun day. Enjoy!
