My dad is in bad shape, and I fear this may be the beginning of the end. They are having a very hard time getting him up and going to the bathroom. He is very weak and has landed on the floor a few times and at least twice the rescue had to be called. They were talking about getting him into a rehab, sis and bro in law are up there helping out. I suggested getting him into a hospital so they can do a work up, and figure out what is wrong with him, and go from there. My mom was happy about me coming up before for my dad's bday, but now is saying it may not be a good time. Like I would be a burden instead of helping. I am definitely the Chicca black sheep in this family. He's my dad though, and I should have the right to see him.
It is also unfair to put all the burden on my sister who has to go back to work, when I am perfectly capable of helping. They said though the last time they tried to get him admitted to the hospital with what turned out to be a UTI, they wouldn't keep him. However, I think they need to get the doctor's office involved. I deserve to see my dad. It hurts my feelings that they think I am going to be some problem or something.

If you want to go, and obviously you do, I hope you go. Your mom may really believe she is doing what is best for you too, but we know she’s not. Plus, like you said, you have to think of your sister and what she’s got going on. You’re needed. My dad liked to keep my mom’s health problems between he and I without help. Meanwhile, I was dying for him to get ahold of family for assistance.

@snowy22315 If only your mother realized what a help you’d be. Oh, snowy, I just thought of something my dad said to me about why he wouldn’t call my sister when we needed help. At the time, Mindy didn’t even have Amyra. I said why don’t you call Mindy. He said, “Why? There is no reason to mess up her life too.” Maybe your mom feels that way.

@AmbiePam I"m sorry Amber I know you love your dad immensely, but he sure sounds like he has a screw loose sometimes in regard to his treatment of you. Families are just difficult I guess.

Perhaps call your sister and ask her how you could help her out, to help lift the burden for when she does go back to work.

I am so sorry that his health is declining.
I will keep him and your family, as well as you, in my thoughts and prayers. 
What about you talking to your sister privately, and devising a plan where you can be used while you are there to help with everything? If she understood that you are there to help she would get y our mother to tone it down.
And by the way, you are in good company I am the black sheep in mine as well, we're a bigger herd I suspect also.

I'm so sorry to hear that your dad isn't doing well but I do agree he needs to be evaluated. Maybe your mom just don't want to burden you especially since you don't live close and not that you would be a burden?

Nah, she isn't that considerate. She just loves me, but doesn't like me, and I would have to say the feeling is mutual.

I'm sorry your dad is having so many problems right now. If I were you, I'd ignore what mom says and do what I want. You ARE part of the family and have every right to see your dad and join in discussions about him/his health/his treatments.

I am considering it, but maybe the 4th will be a better time..Long way to go for a hello and a piece of cake. He got better later in the day..and vitals were good so no hospital.

He is better now. Its a long way to go for a short visit and piece of cake or whatever. I am not sure what to do. The visit would be a lot mor eenjoyable if sis and crew was there. YaY, try are coming.

I hate family drama. Especially when it rears its ugly head when a parent is sick. You go, do what you feel is necessary, and stand up for your right to be there. Praying for you and your dad.
