Most unusual way you got a pet?

We had a parakeet show up at our house one day. My daughter saw it sitting outside. She came and got me and her dad. The little bird kept hopping or flying away when we would try to catch it. Finally I was able to catch her with just my bare hands. She happily sings and chirps in her cage. We've had strays show up here before, but never a bird. I'm amazed we were able to catch her! What is the most unusual way you got a pet?

Well we live in a mobile home for the moment til we rebuild our house after a housefire and one night we hear meowing...could not locate it at first, then we discovered it came from one of the vents that the furnace uses for cold air returns. We worked at it and had to dismantle a section by one of the vents and lo and behold this little kitty came out. She was so hungry and loving. She still comes and goes but she is sure a good addition to our family...

Hi! I guess for me it was just that I knew I was going to have a cat by the end of that week. I bought the litter and litter box, food and water dishes, toys, a bed, everything you need to have a cat. I just knew I was going to have a cat. The surprise came when the cat turned out to be an abandoned kitten, eyes barely open. He had no teeth, so I had to bottle feed him four times a day for 2 months until he could eat on his own. I still have him, he's 16 years old now and has lived the past 2 with cancer. I love him - he's like my child. I'm so glad he's the cat I got! :-)

I think you're right! We have a cat that's claimed our son for his own. I jokingly tell my son you didn't choose him, he chose you!

My son his senior year of high school found a small puppy along the road. When he pass by it with his truck the puppy was so weak from not eating anything but grass and whatever he could find, the wind from my sons truck blew the puppy into the ditch. He picked him up and brought him home and whenever anyone would ask us what kind of dog he was, we would say a thorough bred ditch puppy!
That was even on his records at the vets office. My son just lost him a few weeks ago at the age of 15. He was a very loving and happy companion for my son and his wife and 2 little boys.

This was truly the strangest way we ever aquired ownership of a new pet. I was sitting here on the internet one night. It was like 2:00 in the morning. We have a kitty door for our other cats to go in and out as they please. Our trailer sets back in the woods with a stream and rail road tracks run right behind us. But, anyway, I was sitting here when out of no where I hear this loud unfamiliar "MEOW!" I look to my right and see this scrawny tiny little black kitten just looking around after anouncing his arrival. We have no idea where he came from. But he was in real bad shape. You could see his ribs. He had fleas so bad that his skin and fur felt terrible. He was real scared the 1st few days. I think he thought we wouldn't want him. He stayed under our bed out of our reach. I kept putting food under there for him. Then one late night when everyone was sleeping, he was out in the living room playing like a happy kitten. He gets along great with my other cats. One, has cared for him. We have had him for over two months and now he is more than twice the size. His fur is so soft now. He had a real bad cold at the beginning that he is getting over. He goes outside to go to the bathroom. I have no reason to get rid of a lil' sweetie like him. What's so cute is he is all black and has a lil' tuft of white on the neck, under the arm pits and between the legs. We have named him Marcus. He is a great addition to our family.

One day when I was about 8 my mom was driving me to school. Something scurried across the road infront of us, and I told my mom to stop. She didn't want to because she thought it was a rat (lol), but I knew that it was a kitten. I finally convinced her to stop and I went and picked it up. She couldn't have been more than 5 weeks old, she was so tiny. We took her home and gave her a bath. We originally thought she was completely black, but after washing her we found that she had white on her too! We decided to keep her of course. She's 13 now, but still super tiny. I call her my little midget kitty.

When I was younger my Dad suprised me a few days before Christmas one year. He took me with him to bid on a job, when we got to the clients house I saw a beautiful black lab come out. We went in the house and my Dad asked me if I liked the dog and I said of course I do. Then he asked if I wanted to take her home, I thought he meant to dogsit. So I asked for how long and he said permanently. I was so excited, I had wanted a black lab for years. Evidently he had made up the bid story so I would be suprised, it worked.

thats interesting! me, i got my 2 pet cats by chance. The 2 cats got inside my open bedroom window! They were like 5 months old at that time. I dont exactly know what happend maybe somebody dropped the cats in my window purposely. I tried to reach Lost & Found section in our communty paper but nothing worked so I decided to care for them! they are now 5 years old and still playing actively with my shoes! :-)

I wish I could have got one like that. My pet habit came from my wish to be with nature. I am surrounded by highrise. I can seldom see a tree. So I have planted tree in front of my hous and at that time I started keeping birds. I have quite a few of them now.

We'd never had a bird before. At first I found her chirping and singing annoying, but now I like it. She always sounds so happy - how can you not feel good when you hear that! I bet you feel the same way? Thanks for sharing.

I can honestly say the most unsual way I have gotten any pet was just adopting two cats off the street corner. I have never had anything show up at my house and stay long enough to be adopted. But to be honest I'm not sure that I would just take in an animal like that :( I like them but I just don't seem myself doing BUT if an exotic bird just showed up and was chilling I might try to do something.

I was getting ready for work one morning and my husband was looking out the window watching all the crows in the trees that surround our house. He says to me as i'm leaving wouldn't it be cool to have a crow for a pet, about 2 hrs later he calls me at work and says you'll never guess what happened, "he heard the birds outside in a big commotion one baby crow had fallen from the tree, he went to help and it could not fly, so needless to say we became the birds parents for a few months until it got to big to keep any longer.
