What Would Have Happened If Layne Staley Hadn't died?

Alice in chains was in my opinion on top of the world just hitting their stride when Layne Staley ODed, before he died though I had the honor to see them live with Ozzy early in their musical career. Staley had a broken leg at the time and was hopping around the stage saying "come on! If I can stand the f&*k up so can you!" He was so passionate I think they'd have lasted a long time if he hadn't died...
Now the surviving members are reunited and touring with a revolving door of singers, do you think this is good or should they just let the band name go and move on like Nirvana did after Kurt killed himself? I know Courtney played a part in that but I think it was good for them to move on to other stuff instead of trying to keep Nirvana going, it just wouldn't have been the same. I think Cantrell, Inez, and Kinney should do the same, maybe not go seperate ways but start new with a different band name and a solid lead singer.

Its a tricky question. Being a huge fan of AIC, I would have loved him to have him alive but I would think that he would have more matured in his songs... not that earlier ones were not classic. But I would think that they may have gone the same way as Pearl Jam and gone into more subtle poetry and milder music.
