Washington- US President George W Bush's nominee to become the new defence secretary said Tuesday that "all options are on the table" and that he was open to a "wide range" of views to stabilize Iraq. "I am under no illusion why I am sitting before you today," Gates said at the opening of Senate hearings on Bush's choice to replace Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
The nomination of Robert Gates, 63, a former director of the CIA spy agency, was expected to sail through the Senate's Armed Services Committee and go to a full Senate vote on his confirmation as early as this week.
