I'm going to ask a dumb question. Is being Hindu a cultural thing, or is it a religious thing. If it is cultural, I don't know why you'd have to change. If it is a religious thing, I would think it would be a problem believing in 2 seperate ideas about God at the same time.

hindu and christian is ofcourse a religious thing... both are different religions.... if you to a church, if you are a hindu, you dont the same respect as they give it for christian right?

Sorry to say Anju hinduism is not a religion as percieved by 99% people, it is a way of living. In a historical judgment by Supreme Court of India it is very clearly stated Hinduism is not a religion but it is a way of living. Hindu name was given by muhammadens plunders to the people who were living across river Indus. please read the judgement In the case of Dr. Ramesh Yeshwant Prabhoo the Supreme Court bench dealt with the meaning of the word "Hindutva" or "Hinduism" when used in election propaganda. The court came to the conclusion that the words "Hinduism" or "Hindutva" are not necessarily to be understood and construed narrowly, confined only to the strict Hindu religious practices unrelated to the culture and ethos of the People of India depicting the way of life of the Indian people. Unless the context of a speech indicates a contrary meaning or use, in the abstract, these terms are indicative more of a way of life of the Indian people. Unless the context of a speech indicates a contrary meaning or use, in the abstract, these terms are indicative more of a way of life of the Indian people and are not confined merely to describe persons practicing the Hindu religion as a faith" (Emphasis supplied). This clearly means that, by itself, the word "Hinduism" or "Hindutva" indicates the culture of the people of India as a whole, irrespective of whether they are Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jews etc. The Supreme Court Bench has further observed that "the mere fact that these words (Hindutva or Hinduism) are used in the speech would not bring in within the prohibition of sub-section (3) or (3A) of Section 123. It may well be that these words are used in the speech to promote secularism and to emphasize the way of life of the Indian people and the Indian culture or ethos, or to criticize the policy of any political party as discriminatory or intolerant. Whether a particular speech in which a reference is made to Hindutva and or Hinduism falls within the prohibition under sub-section (3) or (3A) of Section 123 is therefore a question of fact in each case" (Emphasis supplied).

I have difference of opinion here. Sociological/geographical interpretation and religious/philosophical interpretation are different. Philosophical muslims, buddhist, jains, christians are not hindus because these people do accept the authority of the Vedas. Non-acceptance of the authority of the authority of the Vedas was one reason why Gautama Buddha left the Hindu fold.

personally, i believe that converting to some other religion to gain something, in this case being adopted..is just shameful. sorry for the harsh words but u are essentially leaving ur own faith just to be accepted by other person..what happened to ur self respect..?

I think you should listen to your heart, and not have anyone try to change you. If you feel this is in your best interest, then do it. But don't do it for your friend. Do it for yourself.

Ask her if she would convert to Hinduism. Of course, she will say no. Maybe then she will listen when you explain to her that it is no easier for you to turn your back on your faith than it would be for her to turn her back on hers.

if you are a hindu and you bilieve in jesus there is no problem with that. Its your dicission to choose any religion. but why should you believe in one religion and believe in and pray to a god from other religion. in this way what ideologies would you follow. its better to bilieve in a single religion.

see, its not that any idealogies... actually i worship all gods... i dont think gods are different... i believe all the gods... but conversion from hindu to christian what bothers me... i think this is not the right thing to do...it's like this, i liek many guys, i cant marry everyone... you got to marry the one where you will be happy with him... so this is the samething.. i like gods... but convert from my birth religion to other religion just because i like the god...but my friend gives gyans and all.. dont know what to say...do not want to hurt her...

Listen Anju, u believe in Jesus even thoush you r a hindu coz of the the basic hindu ideology that everybody is a believer regarless of what name they have given the one and only almighty. We dont think ne body is infidel. So u can still believe in Jesus and stay hindu at the same time. its perfectly fine with hinduism. Remember according to hinduism, everyone tries to attain the ultimate supreme truth and hinduism is one of the ways to attain it, just as christianity or islam are. Everyone is correct.

This is clearly wrong, if you believe in Jesus then you believe he speaks with the authority of God and Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me." John 14 6 all the best urban

Uhm.... what a mess.... you are Hindu and you believe in Jesus.... But I can't understand well, you believe in what Jesus says and did or you believe in Jesus like a Christian? And yet, can an Hindu believe in the Divinity of another religion? However I think that you should listen to your heart, your soul.... I know, your friend wants you to become Christian, I live in Italy and I know very well that Christian people always try to convert people, but be always yourself, only you can decide what's better for your soul.

If she's truly such a good friend then she should be able to accept the fact that you wish to stay a Hindu. It's should only be your decision if you want to convert to Christianity, no-one (especially not a so called friend!) should force you into it! It's a huge thing and I feel that your friend is taking it far too lightly and is not respecting you at all.

Hey anju, It is absurd to think about to conversion of relegion if you beleive in jesus than have beleive in it there would be no effect to convert yourself ; hindu to christian if Jesus is GOD , than he would be least concerned about your relegion, or there would be a caste system in Jesus's Hepl center that first he would classified the relegion of yours and than solve your problem.. i do not think so that it system will be implemented there , I suppose GOD is ONE. i beleive in Lord Krishna and i saw millions of devotees of lord krishna from America, UK and Australia and many of them are staying in vrindavan, mathura . I dont think that they have changed their name and bank account and ids to be a devotee of lord krishna. So, i think remain Hindu and if you have faith in Jesus , went regularly to Church nad pray there.

Hi, Your question makes no sense to me, if you believe in Jesus, believe that he is the Son of the one true God and speaks with the authority of God and believe that he will save you and keep you in eternal life then you are a Christian, if you don't believe all that then you are only paying it lip service. You cannot be both be a Hindu (religiously) and a Christian. all the best urban

If she wants to adopt then whats the problem she has if you are Hindu. In US laws there are no terms like for adopting you need to convert to Christianity. If she loves you and wants you as a daughter then she can adopt you without any preconditions. That is quiet strange !! i am not sure whether this lady love you more or the religion she belongs !!
