Tomorrow I have to get on an air plane for the 1st time in over 5 years. The last time I flew was a month before 9-11 and I had anexity about flying then.
So tomorrow I'm leaving because I have to go to court in Pa. I'm scared to death to get on a plane, I used to fly by myself all the time when I was ages 9-17 from FL to PA and back again and it never bothered me one bit.
I called my Dr about getting something for anexity to relax me, but because I am in my 1st trimester of pregnancy there is nothing I can really take. They did however tell me that I can take benedryl (or TylenolPM) to calm my nerves.
Does anyone else have anexity of flying? What do you do to calm yourself?

Hi, I see in your photograph your holding a baby. If this is you and your baby then you have experience of giving birth. You know the breathing exercises they teach you to do when your giving birth? Well I would recommend these. Practise deep breathing before the flight, during the flight and if needed after the flight. I believe in God and usually focus on Him and that relaxes me. If you don't believe in God then imagine something really relaxing and nice close your eyes and concentrate on being there. Soon you will drift off into a world of your own and be taken away from the frightening situation. Alternatively you could play a game or keep telling yourself that your not frightened. Positive affirmations really help as well. Hope this helps.

That would possibly have worked if I had given birth naturally. I never learned those exercises because I had c-sections both times. =(
I didn't do very well on the flight up - but on the way back I had to take off and land twice because of a layover. I did pretty good.
Thank you for your advice =)

I have flied many times when I was younger, my first fly when I was 4! Then other trip everywhere with air plane. This summer I took an air plane to go to Moscow...and I was very scared aboard. You must only be calm, just relax, try to concentrate on somethings you will do when you arrive. You could try listening relaxing music, ask hostess. I hope you are not terrified...because...if you are, it's a big problem!

I may be terrified tomorrow. At the moment I'm pretty calm about it. But once I leave my children and husband tomorrow and get to the airport it may be a whole different story. I know I wont freak like a crazy person, but I may faint lol. I just hope it won't get that far.

I am flying almost 2 times every month because of my work.Wear something comfortable, so that you ll make yourself feel nice in the seat.Go at least 2-3 hours prior your flight to the airport so that you feel into the climate.Take a nice book with you, and dont thin about it!You will enjoy it!

I didn't think of wearing something comfortable...I'll remember that tomorrow. I did buy myself a new book to start reading on the flight and a magazine. Maybe I'll charge up my GameBoy just so I'll have a few different things to keep me busy. Thank you for the response and ideas! =)
