And what if we haven't found anything to replace it?

when we run out of oil we use it alternative that is battery or electric power ....,if this is not available think our hands are cutted, there is nothing to replace it except solar energy...

Solar panels are quite expensive, though they do repay the cost years down the line.

I don't know that solar works for big areas, like an entire city. Europeans are always way ahead of the U.S. in terms of conservation and such, and I've never heard of solar being used on a really big scale, just for houses, some office buildings, etc. So I'm saving up dozens of packages of Bic lighters to use, along with my thousands of boxes of Kraft macaronic and cheese.

Do you know that first electric car was built in 1920? Technology is there but big corporations want us to use gasoline. Do you want to know why? Because there is nothing to malfunction in electric car, not mention less money to spend by end user. If we all can use electric cars, we can save our planet, need less oil in general and we all can save money.

Could you say what that is? Because our government seems to have no idea.

We just need to trust the benevolent folks at Halliburton to come up with an efficient, dependable, and low-cost solution that I'm sure they will sell to us at a fair price, and with them making a minimal profit. LOL

Well of course we will find something to replace it. For instance the original diesel engine was made to run on peanut oil and the engine still works with other plant based oils. Most engines can take ethanol too (I understand ethanol engines are very popular in Brazil where they have a lot of sugar).

well the sooner we get something like that here the better!

It would be good if we found that something before we ran out of the previous thing (oil).

If we run out of oil, we will be ultimately screwed. Everything we use depends on oil. We have too much of a dependency on oil. There are alternative energy sources that are being tested and produced to replace oil. For instance they invented a hydrogen fuel for cars to replace the gasoline needed to run the cars. The hydrogen fuel will help to reduce air pollution because it releases pure water, hydrogen, and oxygen that is recycled in our atmosphere at a faster rate. Geothermal, biomass, OTEC, solar power, wind power, and wave/tide power are examples of alternative energy sources being produced and used throughout the world. In Hong Kong, they have buses that run entirely on electricity and solar power. Alternative energy uses natural means like heat vents, waves, tides, and sun energy to create energy. power, and electricty. The problem with the alternative energies are that they are not developed well enough. Our government hasn't thought of alternative energy that much. They have few programs that research them. In 2045, when oil runs out we will be in a deep hole if the US doesnt start looking towards and implemenmting alternative energy sources in the states.

I know there is plenty of alternatives to oil out there, but you'd think that they should be looking to introduce these on a mass scale now rather than waiting for nearer the time... Thanks for your response..:)

if we run out of oil we can go for battery operated like in the case of hybrid car.otherwise using solar power.converting solar power to produce energy.then opt for other than petrol and diesel like kerosene or any plant oil.sure this topic will be some suggestion for research people.thanxs for starting this topic.

but the prob with solar panels is that they won't work everywhere, just see my post above, and obvioulsy elec. cars will need to be charged but if we can use plant oil than that's good. It would be great if governments would get off their backsides and started implementing some of this. Thanks for the response..:)

If you're talking about the oil we use for gas, then it won't be a problem at all if we run out of it because there are other ways we can run our cars. For instance, we can do electric cars like Hybrid is already doing.

there is also the question of how will we heat our homes? solar panels will be useless in places like finland where they get 23 hrs of darkness for a while during the year, and electric cars are going to need charging.

With people all over the world overeating and becoming obese, we have a vast untapped supply of methane in the form of human flatulence (farting, passing gas, etc. If we can collect and harness that methane we could meet many energy needs. I'd suggest a kind of pot to be attached to the rear end to collect this gas. And people would burn more calories because they wouldn't be able to sit down.
