Movies aren't all bad are they.....?

I was thinking today about some movies I've seen which were particularly inspirational. The kind that actually have a message for it's viewers from which to learn.
3 of them I can think of are these;
Scent of a Woman. This movies has a great message about integrity. Not selling out your morals for personal gain, or out of fear of reprisal. A prep school student is faced with the destruction of his future if he doesn't inform on a classmate. For his own reasons he feels this is wrong and keeps quiet, though it's been promised his silence will ruin his chances for college. Al Pacino, one of the kings of the monologue, delivers a stirring speech on what makes a leader and the roles of our teachers.
I highly recommend it.
Next is A Bronx Tale. Most people think this is just a gangster movie. Not true, it just takes place in the gangster world. The real message is that "There is nothing sadder than wasted talent"
The last one was a hard choice. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I don't neccasarily believe the message anymore. I would really like to, but I grow more cynical the older I get. Our Government should help us, not grow there own power by using us as tools. If you think the US government has suddenly become corrupt, this movie is nearly 70 years old and they understood how wrong it was then. It would be nice if more people understood the message Mr. Kapra was trying to convey.
What movies have you seen that have inspired you to do good? Or put into words and images something you knew but maybe couldn't express on your own?

i like to watch tyler perry's "Madea" there are several different movies he's made involving madea and me and my family enjoy them all because he talks about God, as well as doing what's right for you and not letting others bring you down. i think his movies are great because alot of people rarely go to church any more because lets be honest it's boring but his movies talking about God and he adds comedy so if you have never watched a tyler pery movie please go get one i know you'll enjoy watching it just like i do.

Thanks. I'm not a believer but for those that are, it's always good to have real inspiration in that respect. What did yo think of The Apostle? I just saw it again tonight. Good story of redemption I think. When he "saves" that redneck that wanted to bull doze the church almost made me want to be saved.
Thanks for taking part.

What inspires me is the movie "The count of Monte Cristo"
You'll see the dilemma of having revenge. But what it interest me most is the act of wisdom, what is true love, and of not loosing hope. You'll see in this movie how did Edmund Dantes raise himself from suffering.
Although it's quite boring at first, you'll regret of not understanding it's every line coz if you do, you'll be forced to watch it again. (,")

My mother bought a movie called "The Judas Project" and it was a amazing movie. I think that everyone who watched it cried or aleast got misty eyed. It is a very moving story about jesus I know everyone thinks this story has been told a million times and what makes it any different right? Well, this movie is what it would be like if Jesus walked the earth nowdays speading his messages and what kind of things would happen and how people would accept him . It is a great movie it's not just for christians because at the time everyone in mine and my husband borrowed it to watch and it helped change us in some small way or another. It even made my brother stop drinking that was a good thing. So I highly reccommend this movie to all young and old. And maybe in some small way you may be changed from the beginning to the end of the movie and see if you can get through the whole movie with out a tear or misty eyes. And the music on this movie is fabulas. Becca

Good answer. I see a few people here have grasped what I was saying and are adding quality posts to the discussion.
Yes the Jesus story has been told many times. Some telling were very poor but others hit the true message on the head. Sounds like Judas Project is one of the good ones. I'm an Agnostic, meaning I don't believe in God, but I can appreciate the true message of Jesus.
Thank you.

How about showing some origonality and not just copying what someone else wrote? If you don't have an answer to the topic just move on to another. We're not all here just to spam for money.

There are tons of inspiring movies. I don't know why you would say all movies are bad. Movies are just stories. Do you think books are bad too? Because as of the past seven years nearly sixty percent of all major nationwide released films are based on novels. There are tons of movies about "bad" people that still have good messages. Look at a movie like "Shawshank Redemption". It is about a bunch of prisoners in jail and yes, some of them are really bad people while others are actually decent people or even good people who did a stupid thing or made a mistake really young. Morgan Freeman was locked away when he was just a young teen. He spent his entire life in prison and became a new man. Now I am not saying this is the norm or even the best example perhaps and I still might not invite this person to dinner, but the movie has a message, a good one. If you actually watch a film and let it sink in most movies do have an underlying message of moral superiority and greatness. Sometimes you just have to look for it.

I apologize if I misconstrued something but you title was very misleading if that is so. You titled it, "movies aren't all bad, are they?" as if you or someone else had said they were...confusing.

i particularly like Remember the Titans. It's a story about a football coach who put together african americans and white guys in just one team. at that time racism was a big issue and it's really touching to see people let go of their prejudices and work as one. i like that because i think nowadays racism is still rampant, although people try to deny it.

That was a good movie. Great story. Welcome to Mylot and thanks for responding with a real answer.
BTW, I had an Aunt who was a mission ary in Phillipines. Spent most of her life there. Most of the family couldn't understand why she stayed but she said it was her home and where she was needed. She was even buried there. Have a nice day.

Twelve Angry Men, with Henry Fonda, gave the message that one man doing right and standing for truth can make a difference!

One movie I found to be inspiring is the movie called Blood Diamond. I saw the sneak preview last week and it was honestly the best, most heart felt movie I have seen. It actually made me sit down and see the world I am living in now, compared to the hell some people are forced to live in. You gotta check it out!

I didn't make the discussion to earn lots of money. I started it to HAVE a discussion. How about taking part in it or staying out of it? I'd rather you didn't use my topics to simply earn pints without contributing.

Everything has two aspects, good & bad. Generally it has been seen that we say good to what we like or we show interest on it and we say bad to those things which we do not like. One thing is clear that nothing is bad or good, it is our view/opinion which makes anything good or bad. Try to leave such things, may be movie, people, place etc. Even blue films are good when we see them as educative points of view. Otherwise all will say, hey this is wrong. Even such films teach us a lot. Those who do not know anything, can learn many things from blue films. So we should try to catch good things from anything and try to leave the bad part. In this way we can improve our knowledge in different field.

I disagree with what you say about good and bad. Opinion doesn't make something that is bad suddenly be good. Besides your entire post was irrelevent to the topic. Please reread my question and try again if you have something to add.

I especially like two classics: "Stella Dallas" starring the great Barbara Stanwyck and 'To Kill a Mockingbird" starring Gregory Peck.
Stella Dallas shows the deep, incredible love a mother has for her daughter but goes beyond that to show what constitutes REAL love.
To Kill a Mockingdbird takes place in the deep south in the 1930's. The viwpoint is through the eyes of a child. And the viewer is taught some deep truths through her childhood adventures during this one particular summer. The messages in the movie are profound and one can't watch it without being "changed".

Oh I just love ninspirational movies!
I especially like movies by Jim Jarmush, they always go straight into my heart.
Night on earth is an awesome film by him. It plays in five different places (New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Rome and Helsinki)in the same night and the scenes are always setted in a taxi. The five scenes don't really have a lot in common but that they are about the temporary bond formed between taxi driver and passenger. Some of the stories are really funny and others, especially the one playing in Helsinki, are really sad and show you how hard and unfair live can be.

It must be hard going to school with your learning disability. I'm surprised you were too lazy to read my post but not too lazy to respond with that string of gibberish you posted. Please try not to crap on my threads. Not everyone here is just out to raise their points, some of us actually want to discuss things.
Are they teaching you English at that school of yours? And do you vote?

Vision Quest was a good one in that regard. I related to it better being a high school wrestler when it was made.
