Do you think teachers should be paid more? Why or why not?

I think we have it totally backwards in the USA. Teachers are one of the lowest paid professions, but in my opinion one of the most valued. I think we either loose or totally miss the good ones because of the pay. I'm not saying that we don't have some good teachers. I'm just saying that I think we would have MORE good ones if the pay were better. Not to step on anyone's toes, but why do we pay the professional athletes SO much and can't increase the teacher's salaries? We don't have to take away from them (although a small percentage wouldn't hurt), but we do have to increase it for the teachers. Let me know what you think one way or the other.

I do think that they should be paid more. It's hard putting up with my own kids sometimes never mind 20 or 30 others. I think that they have one of the toughest jobs there is. I'm also sure that it is rewarding in many ways as well. I know that I couldn't do that job and I take my hat off to those teachers out there.

All over the world teachers are less paid. you will be surprised to know this one very big school conducts a training programme for teachers for three days 200 KM away from city, and teachers are paid Rs 50/- per day and Rs 10/- for lunch. and on last day they honour one teacher " best science teacher" and give Rs 100/- as gift to her.
If you know the common labour is getting Rs 150/- per day along with food.
see where teacher stands.
