I was seeing these guys a lot more towards the end of summer. Just figured they were the usual tiny lizards running around but looking closer they really different. This one was in my shower one night! I didn't notice until I was in and running the water. If he had started running around before I would have screamed bloody murder. I caught him so my daughter could have a look later, then we took his picture. He was really kinda cute in a creepy way.
I completely forgot about the picture until last night until I saw something on the couch out of the corner of my eye. I turned and it darted down - another lizard type thing! Except I'm not sure thats what they are. Salamanders aren't lizards right? There's a diff I think.
Anyway, tell me what you know about this guy so I can seem super smart to my kid. And if I should be discouraging from making my place home please let me know :)

What state do you live in and where's the pic? :)
Salamanders are amphibians. Usually you'll find them around water. Though I've seen one in a sink before. Try doing a search for your states wildlife dept, usually they have lists with pictures of the different reptiles and lizards etc that reside in your state. I moved from FL, lots of little lizards all over the place there, I always called them geckos, not sure exactly what they were. Now here in TN, I've seen a different version of them, forget what they're called, kinda prehistoric looking things lol. I don't think any of them cause problems, they'll eat the bugs, so don't kill them :)

I'm in Texas. I figured maybe I'm seeing it inside because it's been so dry here, even in the cold months. Oh and I don't know if it shows in the pic but it looked like he had kinda big toes. At least they were spread more like a frogs, you know.
I'll look on the wildlife sites eventually. I haven't known where to start yet. Would be fun to catch one and take to my daughter's school.
