Have you been baptized?

I was baptized and re-baptized in so many churches that in all honesty I feel as though baptism of an infant is worthless. I personally have waited with all of my children, had a 'dedication' service where we dedicate our children to God and to raise them in God's way but let THEM choose when and if they become baptized. Have you been baptized, do you think it's a necessity or should it be up to the individual when they're old enough?

I have not been baptized yet. I think you should be baptized when you are ready and not when you are born. I also think thats its up to the parents when their children should be baptized, so that the child knows what he or she is doing.

Thanks! I agree so very much. It's such a huge thing that I don't think we should just assume our children want to be baptized. We can hope and pray that they follow our beliefs but it's a freedom they should have!

Does your culture do anything to show your service to a higher being?

Child baptism is not Biblical.Thats just a traditional practice now.t child baptism had any significance in bible, Jesus would have had His baptism when He was a baby.

Most people think entire families were baptised, including the children, but not that it was a requirement. Such as Mark 1:5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."

I was baptized at the age of six.. It was on the 15 day of March 1970. My god parents were my aunt and uncle: Aunt Jean and Uncle Herald. I was baptized at Saint Casimir Catholic Church and still remember having salt put on my tongue and answer all the questions regarding "renouncing satan and all his works".+

I never heard of them putting salt on the tongue? What is the purpose of that? Do all Catholics do this? I was raised in a Catholic school but don't really recall ever witnessing a Catholic baptism.

my parents left it up to us and felt that we shouldnt be baptized until the spirit led us and we knew the time was right, and i have decided to do the same with my kids, have a dedication but wait till they know what its really all about and can choose it and feel that God has put it into their hearts to recieve baptisim. The bible does say that none can come to the father unless they are called by HIm so it just makes sense to me to wait. so in other words i agree with you.

baptism - my girls getting baptized
why did you getbaptized so many times? I guess I am a little curious I have only been baptized once and my girls got baptized at the same time. We should have tried to get my older one baptized but by the time the second one came I just said let us just do it both at one time. That way they both are baptized and only one party it was really fun.

basically each church my parents switched to required you be baptized under their church eyes I seriously think I've been baptized in just about everything BUT Catholic! lol And yet I went to a Catholic school. Odd when you think about it!

Yes I have, once, in a catholic church, but I don´t care about it. I was baptized when was a kid. I think that it should wait until people are of age enough to decide about it for themselves and not their parents.

Any work which does not result into Feelings or awareness of greater knowledge is not work(Karma) at all. One should learn or get good feelings by any doings/work. if not , it is not work at all.

A dedication sounds like a lovely idea. No-one in my family has been baptised as a child but been encouraged to experience many religions then free to be whatever they want. We have 12 different religions in our family. It is great. We learn a lot about tolerance and also bigots. I have never been baptised and don't believe in orgnaised religion but consider myself a christian person. I went to a religious school for the excellent education. I upset the status quo firstly when I said I wasn't baptised and then when I said I wouldn't get baptised. Everyone was encouraged to prey for my soul. My mother was contacted and told about her heathen daughter. So Mum turned around and said if I didn't want to be baptised it was my choice and that if I was treated any differently there would be hell to pay. LOL. I had to explain that I thought I was more christian than most and that I wasn't a bad person. I finally convinced the preist and the sisters that I wasn't goign to burn in hell and that just because I didn't believe in God that I wasn't a bad person.

I agree. Pushing anyone to get baptized defeats the entire idea behind it.. that they CHOOSE to accept Christ as their saviour and live as God has asked.

Well I was old enough to remember being baptized. None of our girls have been & I am not sure it will ever happen. I know my husband & in-laws would like it though. I am not about to become active in the church again just becuase of this.

I was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church when I was a baby with a godfather and a godmother but when I was taught of God, I was baptized into Christ when I was 15 years old, still young for some people, but the Lord Jesus was already discussing in the temple when He was 12 years old. I am now a Christian, a member of the Church of Christ founded by Christ in Jerusalem on Pentecost day as shown in Acts Chapter 2 of the New Testament.

Baptism has to be taken only after a person believe. It should not be taken out of compulsion or with the intention of another person. Bible says in Acts 18:8 a person should get baptism only after he believes. A child cant believe. So a child cannot take baptism. Only when he is matured enough to believe, then he can get baptism. That is the only Biblical Baptism. All other types of "Baptisms" are unbiblical.

I was baptized when I was a young child but have not been baptized anywhere else since then. I have been to a couple different churches but still belong to a catholic church. I would let them decide if they want to be baptized or not and what type of religion and church they want to be baptized with.

Through baptism we are receiving the invisble gift of God,the HolySpirit and He is showering this gift not because of our merit but out of His grace...So there is no point in waiting till ur of proper age and then acquire it...It cannot be acquired as such...As i have already mentioned it is a gift and it is given free of cost to all the members of the church

I think my parents had me baptised when I was about 3. I was brought up and went to a Lutheran church and was confirmed in my later teens. I married a Baptist and when we began trying to find a church we both liked, I was baptised again in a little Baptist church we were going to at the time. We both fell away from going to church because we both had to work on sundays a lot and got out of the habit. Later, I joined a Lutheran church again and went for a few years and then felt led to join the Catholic church. My husband joined the Church a few years later too, so it almost seems like I've traveled full circle.

I didn't get baptized until I was about 35 y/o. I think you should be old enough to understand the meaning before you are baptized. I think the dedication service is good though.

I have been baptized when I was seven years old. I do think that the individual should make it's own decions.
