SNORING

Snoring occurs when air does not flow smoothly through the air passages, or when the soft tissues or muscles in your air passages vibrate. Age can be a factor. The older you get, the weaker your throat muscles become. Weak throat muscles cause the surrounding tissues to sag and vibrate. Nasal blockages caused by allergies or a deviated septum (when the partition between your nose is crooked) can limit airflow through your nose. This forces you to breathe through your mouth where the more flabby tissue is located. Obstruction caused by enlarged tonsils. Too much alcohol or sedation at bedtime. Deformities in the nasal pathway. Being 20 percent over your ideal weight can cause snoring. Ways To Avoid Snoring Avoid alcohol before going to bed. -Reduce your weight. -Stop smoking. -Establish regular sleeping patterns. -Sleep on your side rather than your back. -Take a decongestant before bed to relieve nasal congestion. -Try sleeping without a pillow. IT LEADS TO MANY DISEASES - STOP SNORING!!!

Sleep apnea occurs in all age groups and both sexes but is more common in men (it may be underdiagnosed in women) and possibly young African Americans. It has been estimated that as many as 18 million Americans have sleep apnea. Four percent of middle-aged men and 2 percent of middle-aged women have sleep apnea along with excessive daytime sleepiness. People most likely to have or develop sleep apnea include those who snore loudly and also are overweight, or have high blood pressure, or have some physical abnormality in the nose, throat, or other parts of the upper airway. Sleep apnea seems to run in some families, suggesting a possible genetic basis. Better if it is treated at child age itself.

yes that is very true. sleep apena occurs in all ages, color it don't matter it happens. to be tested you have to stay the night in the hospital and they hook you up to all of these wires and monitor your sleeping at night. to verify if you have sleep apena or not.

Thank you for all those tips. My husband is the worse snorer ever imaginable. Sleeping on his side doesn't help - he could actually sleep standing up and he would snore. As a matter of fact, I think he even snores while he is awake. Sleeping without a pillow underneath him might help, as I might be tempted to put it over his head - just kidding.

My brother is a Snorer. He is over 20% of his ideal weight and smokes and he snores so loud you'd think the roof was falling off. When he was staying with my mom and I would go over to help her with he house and stuff I couldn't never sleep becuase he snored so loud you thought they was 2 grizzly bears in there fighting! It's the truth and he has had his tonsils and adnoids tooken out because he snored like this and had problems breathing and quit breathing at night but it hasn't helped at all it has gotten worse. So bad in fact his fiance refuses to sleep in the same bed or room as him and they have been together 10 years.lol.. I can't say that I blame her because he's loud but imagine that next to your ear all the time would drive me nuts! literally. He sleep in a large recliner chair now but it doesn't really help either and his son is starting to snore just as bad as he does...lol feel sorry for her..

I do not snore, and I can't stand sleeping in the same room with people who do snore. It drives me nuts. Thanks for your suggestions. What diseases does snoring lead to? Besides giving your bedmate insomnia?

You are right, to gether with the above factors its basically the sagging of the vocal cords that is responsible for snoring ! Change of position while sleeping can reduce snoring to some extent ! I think it must have something to do with genes also, as I have seen snoreing more prominant in some families than others !

Is Snoring Serious? Socially, yes! It can be, when it makes the snorer an object of ridicule and causes others sleepless nights and resentfulness. Medically, yes! It disturbs sleeping patterns and deprives the snorer of appropriate rest. When snoring is severe, it can cause serious, long-term health problems, including obstructive sleep apnea.
