I hav a flowerhorn and it has hexa or hole in the head for quite sometime now. Ive been treating it with metronidazole 500mg tree times a day medication for almost a month now. Its getting better with its appetite but its still has its holes. Do you know real medication for this type of fish disease?

Not sure what you know exactly about this, so I'm gonna tell you all I know/learned. From what I've read over the years on it, they still really don't know what causes HITH disease. Seems the majority think it's caused from high nitrates in the water/not changing the water enough. Usually the parasite hexamita is a secondary infection to HITH. I belonged to an oscar forum years ago, and it seemed the treatment they recommended was basically, be sure your tank is the right size/big enough for the fish, do frequent weekly water changes(more if the nitrates are high to get them lowered to under 40ppm), feed a varied diet-NO FEEDERS- of a good pellet as the main staple, bloodworms, beefheart, shrimp, etc. If it was more advanced, they recommended treating with the metronidazole as well. That's the only medication out there that really treats it(but again, it only treats if there's hexamita). As far as the holes, they won't go away, they'll be scars. If you've been treating for a month now, I'd say go ahead and stop with the meds. Try checking your water parameter levels, make sure to do the weekly water changes and keep the nitrate levels down. Another thing to do, I did it once or twice a week, get some liquid vitamins for humans. Soak the pellet food in it for about 20 minutes or so then feed it. The extra vitamins also help. I'm gonna give you a link, it's geared towards oscar fish, but they have lots of good info there on HITH disease and other problems common with cichlids. On the homepage, on the top left look under articles and just search through those. Good luck!!
