The bushfires are early this year and they are so bad i just hope no one on here is affected. Yesterday i was watching the news and Melbourne was covered with smoke the airport was closed it was so bad and smoke alarms were going off in homes. Today in Melbourne it was 42c the hottest December day in over one hundred years the fires are in 3 states but luckily only one home has been lost.I am just hoping all our Australian friends are far from the fires and harm

Yes it is terrible rosebug and I only hope that they can control it soon, or at least prevent the fronts from joining together. Last Thursday it was really bad and the smoke reached the Riverina district where we were but lucky it dissipated during the day. Today we had 41 degrees, and for this early in December that is way too hot. Also the area in the country is very dry, so we will all be on the alert this summer. I think that everyone is hoping for rain - and for more reasons that they fact that we are in drought.
I too am hoping that everyone is safe. Losing houses is bad enough, losing lives is much much worse.

I heard today that both the fires have joined and now is just one massive fire it is really worrying. Tasmania lost 23 houses and really there is still a couple of months before the bushfire season proper

A bushfire is a wildfire that occurs in the bush (collective term for forest, scrub, woodland or grassland of Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia). In southeast Australia, bushfires tend to be most common and most severe during summer and autumn, in drought years, and particularly in El NiƱo years. In the north of Australia, bushfires usually occur during winter (the dry season and fire severity tends to be more associated with seasonal growth patterns. In the southwest, similarly, bushfires occur in the summer dry season and severity is usually related to seasonal growth. Fire frequency in the north is difficult to assess, as the vast majority of fires are deliberately started by humans.

It is always like that. In winter we can't wait for it to get warm and for the summer but once the summer arrives, we want it to be over. It is very hot again today here in south western New South Wales, but still there will be plenty more days like this to come before the end of summer.

I am in Melbourne and we had lots of smoky days from the bushfires. Luckily the recent rain seems to be falling is some of the right places and I heard that many of the firefighters were able to go home for Christmas. They might need to go back to the bushfires as they're not out of trouble yet, but at least there has been some relief.

I had no idea that was going on. I guess I haven't been watching the news like I normally do. I too hope everyone is OK. If you hear that they are in need of assistance, please provide the site that is collecting it.

Thankfully I'm up north so nowhere near the fires but I have friends who are in the middle of it...Good luck to them and to anyone else in that area...and keep safe! No heroics guys - you are more important to us than your house is!
