Do you think a 14 month old is ready to be potty trained?

He can't really talk yet, just a few words, but everytime he has to go he takes off his diapers and goes to the bathroom, if the door is open he'll pee or poop near the toilet or if the door is locked he just goes on the floor. I 'm not sure if I should try to potty train or what.

If he is doing all of that its definately time to show him the potty.. My daughter started that at 13 months and she was fully trained at 2yrs old.. But be patient.. It takes time and alot of accidents.. Good luck..

Well my daughter potty trained at at about 16 months, some babies are ready before others you can try it and if he doesn't seem like he is getting the hang of it then wait a little longer, it sounds like he is ready to me. Especially if he does it in the bathroom, that at least means he knows where to go. Good Luck

Hey seems ur kid is too smart enough to understand everything. So go ahead and train him.I hope there will not be much trouble for him to understand becoz he already knows something.

Of course you can start now. I started when my daughter was 24 months and it was too late...

Our daughter is 15 months now and we have started training her.. There is no harm in trying.. the earlier they learn the better.

I wish you the best of luck. Potty training a child at this age is quite a feat! But people do accomplish it! Just remember it has to be on his terms. :)

If he is interested then get him a potty chair now! My daughter told me when she was ready and after that the rest was history of course we did have some accident after moving her into underware but only a few, she was around 20months old which is about the right age to start anyway but if he is interested don't turn him off of it.

It couldent hurt to try. My daughter is almost 3 and she is not intrested at all in the potty. I might get her the training undies with the plastic bottoms and then just diapers at night. You might want to try the undies too and see what happens.

I think that if he's already doing all that, he's definately ready. There's really no specific age when a child should be potty trained. It all depends on the individual. My niece didn't want to be potty trained until she was more than 2 years old. My nephew was potty trained at about 16 mo. But yours already knows approx. where he's supposed to go so he's already got a head start. LOL It definately wouldn't hurt to try. :)

It depends on the child, every child is different. If your child shows signs of readiness give it a try.

It sure sounds as if he want to try. There is no harm in trying and if he doesn't take to it you can always trying again say in three months. Don't force him, you don't want to make it a chore for him right now. Make it fun and exciting, give him lots of praise if he goes.

my oldest son is 29, the next is 27. i didn't even try till they were closer to 3. no accidents, no bed wetting. now......my daughter was only 2 and guess what. accidents, tinkle running helter skelter down her leg, in the bed. nope. leave them be little as long as they can. our ped guy told me when they are ready it'll take a few days and it'll be done. he was right. your child might be different, but if i had to do it again, i'd wait for that child to be older too.

If he acts like he is ready then try him .It depends on the kid. My first girl was trained at 12 mths hard to believe , she got sick though and had a set back but got back with it. My son is almost 2 and he will go if I put him on the potty but doesnt realy go to the bathroom his self to let me know if he needs to go

If your child is curious, I think it is up to them, all kids develop differently

Thats pretty young. Two to three is going to be easier. Get a toddler "potty" and at that age, you can tell them what its for. Remind, don't condemn when an accident happens, but throw a party everytime he/she gets it right! You have to let them run around without bottoms on too sometimes. Especially in the beginning when its a race to the toilet! 14 months is probably a little early, I think 18 months is the earliest I've heard of it actually working. If you start too early you'll just end up going crazy from cleaning up messes.
