MCAFEE ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM

A few months ago I downloaded a free McAfee anti-virus program. I liked it very much and, after the 3-month trial period, I bought it online (October 2006). The price was 69.99 dollars, but there was a 20-dollar discount, so I thought it was not expensive. They sent me an invoice by e-mail with the full price and a note saying that, in order to be entitled to the discount, I had to send them back by mail a copy of the invoice plus a proof of a previous ownership of the product (invoice, confirmation e-mail, etc.). As I had downloaded a trial version from the Internet, I had nothing written to prove it, so I sent the copy of the invoice together with a letter saying that, it they did not confirm my discount, I wanted to cancel the order. After a few weeks, I received the bank statement and I saw that the payment had been carried out with the full price. I waited another few weeks and then I sent a second letter at the end of November, but up to now I did not receive any answer nor the famous 20-dollar discount. Has this never happened to someone of you??
I posted an ad on www.scamclub.com and there I read another one from a lady who was complaining about the customer service of this company (she bought an anti-virus program that does not work and McAfee did not give her the money back). Tks for your help.

I don't use mcafee, so can't say. Have had problems similar to that with aol. Just keep calling them and requesting a refund. Let them know you're unhappy with their service, and feel they scammed you with the rebate. Just be persistent and keep calling. Talk to supervisers and managers, and be sure to get the people's names when you talk to them, along with the date/time you talked to them. If you paid with a credit card, you can dispute the charge through the credit card company as well. Do it soon though, because I believe there's a time limit on filing disputes.
Now, a piece of advice I learned, don't buy products like that online. Buy them from the store, so you have the actual disk. I had a Norton product, it expired so I just renewed it online. A few months later I ended up having to buy a new computer, and you can't transfer that info to the new computer. They email you the one time to use code to start up the subscription, but you can't transfer it to another computer. So I had to buy it all over again.

Why are you using the paid Antivirus program ? Use Avast. I am using it for the last 4 years and till date I was only once affected by virus. Its free, its robust and it has all the modules of scanning including Instant Messenger.
The incident that you have told here happened with me but it happened on ebay so I complained and I was immediately refunded totally. So I would recommend you that the next time you purchase something you better purchase through some vendoe with a robust payment policy.

Hey McAfee does'nt work anyways and its downloads(upgrades) are very bulky(large size).I would have never bought this in the first place.Besides there are many anti-viruses on the web.Try AVG-Free version. Its really good. The upgrades are of a very small size and this does'nt slow down system performance too.Check it out.
U can get it from the Cnet site www.download.com

I think you should have gone for norton antivirus program and it is very good in fighting with viruses and trojans anyway even if you have decided to go for another antivirus then you should have not buy it online instead you should have buy it from a software stores so that you will get whatever you want at the same moment and you will have gotten the discount at the same time if there is any discount............................

i use mcafee free version(8.0i) since aam using this computer(for seven years now)
i don't have to buy this one, i downloaded it free from internet, updates are available regularly, and there are very very few mild attacks which i removed with (Prevx1) software also a free one!
So i dont think there is any need to purchase online, and even if u wanna purchase then always go to their outlets, and make the seal.I think its more effective.

I think you can and should take legal action against them, You can file a lawsuit in consumer forum and most certainly you will get your money back along with the compensation for your money and waste of time. As they have carried out the full price from your bank account so you have all the evidence needed to sue them in court. You must inform them before hand about your problem though if they don't respond you shall look to take legal action so that they don't do the same thing with other customers.

Perhaps McAfee's support personnel was busy at the time you submitted your support request e-mail. I think that McAfee's a big company so they probably won't scam you or similar things like that if not that would destroy the good reputation on the internet. I personally use McAfee Anti-Virus but i didnt buy it from McAfee's official website. I instead bought it from a computer shop near my house. Buying at a retail store is usually better than buying on the internet becuase if there is any problem just go to the store and just ask for a refund or just complain to them. Much faster than submitting a support ticket and waiting for the e-mail which in some cases, never comes.
