Do your Cats and Dogs get along well with each other?

The first set of dogs we had got along fine with the kittens. Now those cats are grown and we're on our second set of dogs because the other two passed away. Our puppy was fine with the cats, but once we got the other dog we had to keep the dogs and cats separated because she had never been around cats before. It's taken some training but she doesn't lunge and bark at the cats like she used to. She's actually very sweet with them now, licking them on the head and keeping an eye on them when they enter the room. Well, I shouldn't say "they" because our female cat tries to avoid the new dog.

My first Border Collie puppy grew up with lots of kittens. He took a shine to one of them and he used to take her by the scruff of the neck and put her in his basket and lick her. That kitten followed him everywhere. When they grew up she always came up to see him if he was outside and whenever we went for a walk she would come part of the way too! It was so lovely to see two animals getting on together so well.

If they are raised together then they will and should get along just fine. my sister had two dogs and a cat. they werent raised together but the dogs looked after the cat a lot.

We have three cats and two dogs. They do get along for the most part. Our two eldest cats were with us first and took longer to adjust to living with the dogs. Our youngest cat was a kitten when our oldest dog was brought home as a pup and they get along famously. I often think that she believes she is a dog the way she romps with them ... :)

A neighbor has a dog & a cat, & got them both at the same time when they were a puppy & a kitten. They do get along very well. I think when they've been in the same household for a while, they do find a way to get along, but for the first few days, depending who was there first, there may be territorial disputes.

yes they do, most of the time. i have 4 dogs and 4 cats in my house. sometimes it can be a bit crazy. they like to chase each other around the house. one of my dogs love to play with our kitten, they are so cute together. i need to take a photo and post it here.

That's the way it has worked out in our house. Just take a look at the picture I've attached to this comment. These two clowns have cuddled together on the couch. One a cat (a big cat) and one a puppy. That's why they appear to be almost the same size. Maybe that's why the puppy didn't pick on the cat.

My cat hates our dog. He growls at the dog while they are in the same room. Which is an improvement becuase when we first got the dog the cat wouldn't stay in the same room. The dog could care less about the cat and can't figure out what the cat's problem is.

I used to have three cats and my dog loved to play with them and they knew that they would not get hurt. It was so fun to watch them play tag. The cat would run. The dog would chase the cat. Finally catchup, and place its paw on the cat. the cat would then get up and start running again. You would think that the dog was out to get the cat but when the cat would turn and run right towards the dog you knew that they both knew it was just play. And then after a long play period they would curl up together and go to sleep.

My pets get along great. Even the older cat we got after the dogs. They all play and sleep together. It is cute. In the morning I will wake up to a bed full of animals.

One of my cats likes all creatures and always tries to rub on them even though he is small and can only rub on some dog's legs he is still adoreable when he does it, so YES, I do think Dog and Cats can cohabitate together.

My cat did that once and I thought it was so adorable. He was stuck in a room behind a closed door so the dog pushed the door open and "rescued" the cat. He was so thankful that he snuggled up against the dog. I wish I'd had my camera ready when it happened.

I have 3 german shepherds, and a kitty and shockingly get along really well, i think mainly due to the fact that the cat was with me before i got the pups and they have been around each other now for over 4 years.

It took awhile for the cat to "warm" up to the dog. She hid and barelt ate for 2 weeks. She lost weight and we were getting worried, but we left the dogs tags on her and they made noise when she moved so the cat knew she was coming. After almost 3 years they get along now. I still hear them fight sometimes late at night but usually because Chunky (our cat) wants Princess to move and she won't lol. Chunky will only drink out of Princess's water and she lets her. It's like having 2 more kids!

i can't answer this question actually. because i don't have a cat or a dog! but when i was growing up, i used to have a cat and a dog. they were ok at that time and they never bother each other. maybe they didn't care much about each other because the dogs stayed outside the house and the cat stayed inside.

Who needs cats, Dogs rule supreme, There's only one place for a moggie, and its certainly not anywhere near me. Let me know where that traitorous dog that licks them on the head is, and I'm sure that It won't happen again. Dogs are dogs and cats are cats, lets keep it that way.
