How about something sentimental like a family tree or embroidered rainbow of wishes with childrens names in clouds. Something from the heart always goes over big. Make bread or chocolates.

Framed family pictures, things that the kids make, perfume that they enjoy, think of something that you know she wants, but would never ever get for herself.

I dont like to spend money on xmas like I used to. For my mother in laws (I got 2 of them), I usually lotions from bath and body works. I know what scents they like so it easy for me. I try to catch the sales so I can get me some too.

i tend to find that parents along with in-laws don't really care what you get them as long as it comes from the heart. both my parents and my in-laws love homemade gift. there is a great idea on www.diynetwork.com on how to make scented bath tea. It's basically potpourri that makes your bath smell fantastic. it's under the craft section on the website.
