I think arranged marriages are more successful becauyse expectations are lower. :)

I think the term arranged marriages includes quite a large variety of things, ... My mother have a "sucessful" marriage of more than 40 years

I feel that every person should be allowed to choose who they marry. If I had married the guy my parents liked then I would never have been happy and he is like the one guy you explained....short tempered and abusive. So I believe each person should be given a choice in who they spend the rest of their lives with.
