Food preparation without wearing gloves. Would you eat in that kind of place?

I was recently in a McDonald's with my mother yesterday and I was sitting there eating my food and she mentioned that she should make a suggestion to McDonald's that the people should wear gloves who prepare the food. I sat there for a minute and then realized what she said. I left my seat and went over to the front of the little McDonalds and watched them prepare food. NO ONE WAS WEARING GLOVES!!!!! I called the health department in the state I live in and apparently people who prepare food do not have to wear gloves! I don't know if I will ever eat out here again! Would you eat food if they did not wear gloves when preparing the food?

1 question. What did the health department say when you called them and told them what's up? Also, you may not know, but NO places use gloves to prepare food. I think they should, though. It's not very sanitary to cook food with no gloves. However, if it was that much of an issue, the state would make it nessecary to use gloves. That's just my 2 cents.

I don't think it's a law here either. I don't like to think about thing's like that. I guess if it bothered me too much then I would stay home to eat. That way I really would know if the food was prepared to my liking. I have never seen anyone at McDonald's wear glove's.

Ewww... that is gross! What state do you live in because I am never eating there. Where I live (Louisiana) there are strict guidlines that require food preparers to wear hair nets and gloves. If the helth department finds out other wise, you can be severely fined and shut down.

Eww that is just gross! If someone is preparing the food without gloves, dont eat it!! You never know what kind of bacteria is being passed on! That is one of the reasons I don't eat at fast food places anymore.. other than it just being bad for you!

You actually made me check with my daughter. In all the McDonalds stores we have been to the people preparing the food do wear gloves. Even in a snackbar I will only order if the person who is doing the preparation is wearing gloves. I have seen people who do the food preparation actually take the money from you while they are wearing the glove and then continue making something. Now that is gross.

I know it's gross but apparently the restaurants got some laws passed that you don't have to wear gloves and there is even a sign that states this is a glove free restaurant. Whether someone preparing the food is wearing gloves or not they can still wipe their face, move their hair and do the same things.

a rubber gloves giving just a belief that the food is prepared in a high prestigious environment. but that not true. health hazards from the gloves is more than the free hand cooking. so better we may request them to wash the hand.we must all encourage them(whao are preparing) that their food is tasty this will make them perfect.

oh, i'm a health and clean conscious person, i don't think i can afford to eat in such kind of restaurant or any food stablishment, sanitary should be the first to consider when it comes to foods. what you did, is a very good job, it should be reported to the health department or any health authorities in you place.

I try not to think about it. I know it's not required but it's really gross. I've seen it a couple of times. It's one of those things, out of site out of mind.

What about restaurants? I know that cooks do not have to wear gloves while they prepare foods. I fear more the person who is cooking the food and does not wash their hands before leaving a rest room. Even so, they have to use their bare hand to open the door. Great stuff to think about.

Wow, that is nuts. I used to work at KFC and we always had to prepare the sandwiches with gloves. But of course if we were using tongs or something, then that's different. But if I were to prepare stuff with no gloves, I would at least make sure that no one saw me. I can't believe people aren't required to wear gloves preparing food. When I worked at KFC and we had our inspections, if we weren't wearing gloves, we got docked a lot of points.

In my country, the govt encouraged the food handler to wear glove. However, some do wear and some don't. I think the glove they wear must also be clean. Of course if I have a choice I will choose the one with glove.

No I would not. I thought everyone in the food business that handled food had to wear gloves. I am glad you did that. So now they will probably close down for that. Thanks to you.
