Water is a prime natural resource ,a basic human need and a precious national asset.Of all liquids, water is the commonest. But, it is the most important and potent thing onour earth. It is the basic of all life-plants,animals ,birds and human. We can get water from the artesian. But, the ultimate source of water is rain. Therefore planning, development and management of water resource demand great importance for the prosperity of any nation.

Rain Water Harvesting is a way to capture the rain water when it rains, store that water above ground or charge the underground and use it later. This happens naturally in open rural areas. But in congested, over-paved metropolitan cities, we need to create methods to capture the rain water.

I Agree but it can be done in low rainfall area easily.
However rainfall distribution is changed.
It seems like pouring rivers from clouds at one time n'
they stop suddenly for a long time.
Even dams can not have capacity to store n' there is flood situation.
Can anyone have solution...
If yes, it will be a great help for farmers...

I think with our resources reducing everyday...Everyone should plan how to use these remaining resources effectively and efficiently..
Water is a major part of ur resources and it is being wasted more than it is consumed or used...So I think rain water which is the natural source of water should be planned and managed properly...to use it in daily life in order to compensate the evergrowing need of water...
And for this Rain Water Harvesting is one of the basic need of the hour..

water...is considered an elixier of life and it has to be taken very seriously and rain water harvesting is a good idea to put the water to good use else it only flows off and no one uses it during the rainy times.

Rain Water Harvesting as a method of utilizing rain water for domestic and agricultural use is already widely used throughout the world. It is a method which has been used since ancient times and is increasingly being accepted as a practical method of providing potable water in development projects throughout the world. It has wide application also in urban and peri-urban areas where the reliability and quality of piped water is increasingly being questioned. Despite these facts the percentage of households using rain water harvesting in Zimbabwe both in urban and rural areas is remarkably low.

Rain water harvesting is a easiest and cheapest way to bring an end to all our problems related to fresh water. In a way it an unsaid duty of every citizen of any country to see to it that he plans his water resources, that is from where he gets it, how much he uses and how he can conserve and save. As nations are spending huge amounts of money on water related projects without much results. so let us make a decision today and now to plan water usage as we do our monthly budgecting. Lets make our counrty rich and free from water shortages.

I thought about doing this one time. Collecting the water that comes off my house and garage and use it for watering the grass and plants durning dry times. I just never got around to doing it... and I don't think that my wife would go for the giant storage tank in the back yard.

Great discussion...So how would one find a cheap way of collecting water at home.
Rain spouts/Gutters into barrels? Barrels are expensive. Any alternatives?
Suggestions.

Collecting rain water is possible anywhere...in town you just put a barrel or 2 or series, they sell connectors now, at your downspouts. Use if for houseplants etc. One other thing to remember, no matter how you collect it, be wary of mosquitos...should have a lid or use pellets that prevent mosquitoes. Also you would be amazed at the amount of water would run off a roof! This is wonderful to see at this site. Hope you ask more things like this!!

It is a very good idea to harvest rain water. Now a days most houses here builds up tanks and other equipment to collect water from the roof top and to use them. It would be nice to have all houses able to use rainwater to some degree. Most places are very hot and have less water. I heard some places people buys water with money. If more lakes are created and more rain water are stored in a natural way to some degree we can decrease the necessity of water. Water fallen on a rooftop is necessary for the usage of a family of 4 if stored and harvested well.
