Ok, really now, this one is good with kids on one site and on the next they say to stay away from them. I want to know what YOU think, what kind of dog is best suited for children 7 and under?

We have 2 pugs and they are great. They love to cuddle and play with the kids, but they never get too rough.

Labradors and Golden Retrievers are very good for children. Also Boxers as they're extremely docile and will tolerate a lot from young children.

I'd suggest a golden retriever or even a labrador...thought mostly all dogs are good with kids ...except for retrievers maybe...they're fierce...

Labs and retrievers are good with kids...also I have a fox terrier that is just great with my little one but really I think it depends on how the dog is raised, because I have seen pit bulls that were great with kids...the only dog that I really have come across that didnt like kids was my mother-in-law's poodle (thats why she ended up getting rid of her)..she was okay when my little one was a baby but after she became mobile and wanted toys and stuff the dog kind of got possive with the baby's toys..thought they were hers..and then when my daughter would try to get a toy then the dog would bark at her like crazy and we were worried that she might snap at her (thats how my mother in law got the dog in the first place was from ppl who the dog had bitten the kids). Anyway, like others have said you also should take into consideration the size of your home and if the pet will have a yard to run arround in and those type of things..also bigger dogs eat more so if you get a big dog then you will probably want to maybe see if there is somewhere like sam's club or costco or something like that where you can get stuff in bulk.

A Jack Russel Terrier. My parents have 4 and my inlaws have 1 too. They love kids, become very trotective and they seem very patient with them. My inlaws dog even let our 1 yrs put her snoot in her mouth. We got a fright, but Muska just sat there. These logs LOVE attention and small kids give them just that. They will play plenty.

well in my opinion the best dog for the fmily is one which suits ur profile ie if u have a small house hold like not enough space go for small breeds if u have a big household go for big breed . well let me tell u a dog is the copy of the owner it takes its behaviour from his care taker so go for the breed u like will be best uite for te family

Labs are definitely good for children, however they grow quickly and easily knock over young children. It is best to go to obedience training regardless of breed. Here is a GREAT resource list! (With ratings that appropriate "Great with kids" or "Not great with kids": http://dogbreedinfo.com/children.htm

I would say a lab or golden retriever for outside dogs. For inside something like a pomeranian or pikanese (not sure on spelling).
