I am a guide, and I think we are not more efficient if you are good at using search engines, but we are way better for people who have trouble finding what they need. It is also an easier process to just ask a question then wait than it is to search yourself and look through all the results. We may not always be more efficient, but we're more relaxing and personable than a search engine!

I have used ChaCha several times when I needed to find something, but for one reason or another did not have the time to search myself. Someone found a couple of recipes for me while I was getting Thanksgiving dinner together a couple of weeks ago... I could have found them just fine myself, but instead of wading through recipes I told the guide what I was looking for, told her that I would be away from the computer for a few moments, and continued to work in the kitchen while she searched for me! It was great. I am a ChaCha guide; I have had guides find things faster than I could simply because a guide can look at the situation objectively without the biases that you might have. Sometimes thinking that you know what you want to find can be debilitating; causing you to limit your search string based on your thoughts...

Two heads are better than one, as they say. If you are experienced on the internet, it's probably quicker to just do the search yourself. But there are many users who are new and some who barely know what a search engine is. Plus, it's a blessing to those without great eyesight or other limitations that make typing or spelling difficult. I wish I'd known about a site like chacha.com when I first joined the internet.

I agree with what has been posted before me... ChaCha is not necessarily about efficiency as much as it is about quality. Also, I think it is a great service for people who are not as familiar with the internet and have trouble with search engines.

I think they are. Sometimes it is hard to word something correctly in a search engine to find exactly what you want. With a human guide it is alot easier to express exactly what it is you are looking for. And then you get just the sites you need, instead of having to weed through thousands of sites to find the right one.
