that when we do stuffs we go to our gadgets, our celphones, laptops etc...? when we need to communicate with someone we just look for the phone book and the name not even knowing whats his/her number no memorization... when we want to do writing stories, all the long lines, we rather have our laptops and ms word than our pen and notebook... when we have schedules, list of birtday, appointments, what to do for a day, we have our scheduler and even our mini computer or our alarms at celphone.? when we need to wake up early, we depend on a clock to sound the alarm,,, or our celphone again..
do you think humanity does married technology...?
what happens if one day we lost it all....... can you live a day without all the technical, gadgets and all the machineries of modern day?

I would say we are with the invention of new and new technology day we are getting more and more dependent on the technology rather we are becoming slave of our own creation.

Yes, we are.
But I think that is inevitable and we can do little to prevent that because the advantages of using technology seemingly outcasts the disadvantages of using it. The whole world in turning around by the innovation of technologies. However, I agree with you in that we should be careful not to be too much dependent that we completely go away from our natural way of living and further create more problems. Rather, we should embed our technological development to our natural way of living. That would be awesome. Oh! we need to work on that.

Society as a whole has grown away from self sufficiency and if/when something happens we are lost with a phone, the net, running water, operating cash registers.. we need to be mindful and keep the skills in hand for the possible day when these conveniences are possibily no more or gone for a long period of time. I know I can live a day with out it all since we sat with our solar and wind powered home and watch 911 happens over and over again on the news when most of the upper tier of states was without power. That is just a sample of being prepared totally, there are many littler things you can do so that you are not stuck trying to cross that bridge off the island on foot, again for example. This is a great topic, I look forward to seeing more views.

i do love technology. but i also love the old school stuff, line pencil and paper and planners. but i don't think i could live without the internet or...sadly...myspace...but that's just the advancement in our culture. as long as our priorities are straight, i don't think it matters.

The question Are We as Humans Too Dependant on Technology...
yes, here are my reasonings.
if all electrical systems stopped on the planet, world wide EMP or whatever. what would happen?
planes would fall from the skies, people in hospitals would die, cars would crash and or stop, lights would go out, heat would stop, or the cold would stop, communications would stop, money would stop. people who use computers for work or do something that uses electricity to run will go job less, those who sell their crafts if possible to make them still would have no market to sell to, farmers would loose crops without water or picking machines, even if picked they couldn't transport things, robotic oil ships would capsize spilling million of gallon of oil i not the waters, because of man-made things water might be restricted from flowing in certain areas (hydro-turbines).
This is just a few off the top of my head. How many of us actually have skills to trade for food or objects to barter with..how many of those objects are worthless without electricity? right, so wed be stuck, hard presses to start a fire on our own or figure clothing out.
These are the reasons that i have started to learn how to survive no matter what.. remember how the world is basicallyl falling apart? well what if civilization goes boom? what then, im learning to build fires alone, make clothes from anything (sewing), weaponry for food and knifes t shelter...
alhtough we may be fine whos to say? some said that we would be in ww2, well we were...as far as whether or not we could survive without gadget of course...im a collector of old world things, calligraphy,, art, books, records, anything,..not junk just old...not antiques..cultural rejects you could call it..solar calculators assuming they still have the sun...
we need to all prepare for anything ...i would hate to see the population go down due to electricity not being around.....then again i would have to wait to long to find food. and animals would once again rule the earth. and the seas, and deserts would be a no-mans land.

I grew up without things like cell phones, cable tv, or the internet(though we did have computers, albeit fairly basic ones), and even a microwave(I remember when we first had one in our home, it was like some sort of marvel of modern cooking LOL). We got on just fine without those things, and honestly, I think if all of these sorts of things just disappeared tomorrow, most of us would find a way to move along without them.
That said, I see nothing wrong with embracing technology as its come to be. It makes our lives a little easier, makes some of us more productive, exposes us to new ideas we might otherwise not have been exposed to. This is a good thing. I do think it's gotten a little excessive in some ways though, I don't really understand people who need to be talking constantly on the phone, or people who rarely see the light of day because they can't tear themselves away from a video game.

me too feel the same thing.....nowadays we r more dependent on the new technology.....and i feel that worst of the inventions are remote control...i feel that we become too lazy that we even can't go to television to change the channel and we r demanding for remote controls for each and everything from switching the room lights to opening & closing of doors..
also with new technology, we have stop doing mental & physical exercise...previously we used to solve problems with our mind...but we need calculator or computer to do even addition of our daily expenses...also these have become such an important part of our life that we can't even do a small job without them.

We are ALL too dependant on technology, as I admit I am as well myself. How did we ever cope in the old days, we walked from place to place instead of driving, we found other ways of entertainment, there was no tv, or even radio, and let alone the internet at one time. And even with technology around, we are more and more dependant on it. Take an example of even when tv's did come out, at one time we actually had to get up from the sofa to change the channel. Now we have a remote control. I know that we can get upset if that remote control is missing, heaven forbid we get up to change the channel. Yep, we are too dependant on technology and it's going to just keep getting worse as time goes on.

Oh yes, we are depending too much on technology.we have all the technology in the world to do our work .But it seems we have forgotten what we are.Our social interaction is decreasing day by day.people are getting obese, can't stay fit at all, thanks to technology.everything within limit is good. But too much use is hazardous.

Technology of convienience are fine...because they don't replace what we are able to do physically, like cellphones. What I don't like is how technology is becoming a crutch for people mentally and physically. It has come to the point where kids don't ever learn how to do math in their head...they learn how to use a calculator. I'm all for technology enhancing our abilities...but not replacing.

I think that people are definitely relying on their "toys" too much, and forgetting how to use their brains and do things for themselves. Of course all the companies who make these gadgets rely on people becoming dependant upon them, as that's what keeps them in business. It's a dangerous route to go down though, as businesses, public services, and even cars become reliant upon computers and satellites, if these should stop working, life would grind to a halt, and people wouldn't know what to do. Refusal to accept that these things could go wrong is part and parcel of the idea of "embracing technology", which is stupid - we ought to use technologies where they're useful, but not base our whole lives around them, and have a workable way of life if these gadgets were all to stop working (in a Y2K type scenario) - there should be manual backup systems.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I like to turn the tv off, and all lights, and light some candles in the evening, and pretend I'm living in a world that has no gadgets, etc.! Especially no phone. But if it would all quit / collapse, the world would panic and lots of people would suffer, and even get hurt. Have you ever had an experience or feeling in your life, which said, in your imagination strip it all away, and see life as it really is. Which is perhaps what you are seeing right now. I read the title of another post, about not really noticing the people in our lives until they are gone.. and I think this is what the world of gadgetry does for us (that and the high speed of life) it obscures our vision. It's ok to live in this time and have these things functioning for us, but we should not let it blind us to the real life and living that goes on around us.
There's two things which bother me more. People's increasing dependence upon government, because that makes for bigger and more, government. And our dependence upon the grocery store. If groceries were not delivered to the stores, most of us would starve! [Do we think of that when we cuss the semi truck on the road, or the farm tractor? In our haste to get where we are going. Which is where?] :))

i do have lots of scented candles, and do pretend sometimes that everything was of stone age. hehehe, but sometimes, its just too good to not think of any thing connected to technology. but its now in us, i hope we all balance what we have been doing. i give you a plus. have a good day.

Technology is a wonderful invention, without which we would all have been poorer. It makes life so much easier in a world that’s accelerating faster than what we would be able to keep up with. Although I agree that technology has actually brought all of this upon us, including laziness.
On the positive side of the coin, it’s a lifesaver, because it creates employment for millions of people around the globe. And not forgetting what it has brought to the medical profession. Complicated surgery would have been impossible without modern-day technology in place. Yet on the other hand technology somehow prevents us from using our natural talents with which we were born. We have lost the ability to even add up figures without the aid of an electronic calculator.
Our ability to perform certain tasks faster, easier and more accurate with the help of computers is indispensable. Yes, we have been spoilt rotten on the luxury of all the gadgetry available to us. But then the compensation is so much more worthy.

i think if we lost it all that there would be alot of people that would go CRAZY. ALOT of people depend on all of these things TOO much. like the other day our water went out and i was going crazy with no running water, then i thought to myself. we have so many made up things we rely on today it's pitiful. i thought, people in the older days didn't have running water and they survived. but i think that i myself would be one of the people that would go crazy without all these modern day things.

thanks for being true.
i sometimes panic when theres no water too. but when i go home to the province where its full of rice plantings and everything else was simple, i do begin gathering water with my mom on a river, then at home we filter it, for bathing and washing, while i go to mountain top and go directly to the spring to have the freshesh water for drinking... sometimes its an escape from city life.. ^_^ but honestly, if i'll be there for months more... im gonna be crazy too.. hehhe..
plus for you.

I have always been a technology geek - always had a PC in my home. Yet I don't have a cellphone and haven't for a few years now. I HATE THEM. I hate what they've done to people and how rude they've made people. I hate it when my friends call me in their car just because they're bored while driving. I hate people that walk through stores, talking loudly on their phone or worse yet, in the Dr.'s office while I'm waiting for an appointment. I hate people that drive like idiots because of them. I am getting one this year for emergency purposes for the car, but that's it. I also prefer my paper Day-Timer to my palm pilot. But technology is wonderful and has bridged people like nothing else could. We wouldn't be having conversations with people from all over the world if it wasn't for technology. :)

yes.we are getting dependent on the gadgets.the increasing number of cell phones, laptops, etc are really making evryone slaves of growing technology.
its a gizmo world.with the new technological developments we are getting dependent on science and it will grow more and more with time.people will get hooked to the technolgy.
yes humanity do get married with technology.we cannot say anything about that what will happen in future.but we can just wait and watch for right time.
