Oh my gosh, of course, ANY dog is safe to have around children IF you raise the dog properly. When I was little I had a Rottie & she was the sweetest dog, never hurt anyone ever. And I have had the pleasure of meeting serveral different pits in the past few years & all of them were simply sweet as could be.

I love dogs and so far have only run across two vicious dogs, one was a toy poodle the other a chihuahua. So why aren't those two banned?

They are primarily the fighter breeds of the dogs, and instinct is instinct at the end of the day. Although my cousin owned a similiar breed and it was really sweet except it's tal which was like a whip! I personally find them ugly, there's many more interesting dog breeds out there!

In general I think Pitbulls can be really safe BUT those who are trained as attack dogs should not be family dogs or near kids. They are trained to attack and the slightest thing can set them off.

Pit Bulls can be safe with kids. As an owner of two female pit bulls I am aware that having them around kids is a big responsibility. And not for the reasons you may be thinking. I am not worried my dogs will attack a child. Not in the least, what I am worried about is the situation itself can lead to many problems. Let me explain... Say for example a young kid, we'll say 8 years old is playing with one of my dogs. My dogs being active pit bulls that love to play can get quite excited. What happens when one of my dogs knocks the child over or trips them and they scrape their arm? Odds are their parents are not going to be happy, even when I asked for okay to let their kid play with my dog. They might understand it was an accident, but that doesn't' change the fact that a pit bull hurt a kid. How do I know they haven't recently read some articles of pit bull attacks? I don't. And neither do you. Pit Bulls can be safe with kids under the correct conditions. Here's a few tips to keep in mind when having your dog around children.

I dont think I would want to own one. Had a friend who had two of them. He loved those dogs . One night he came home from work and his male dog (Chance).. attached him. He recieved over 160 stiches. Those dogs were like his children.

I think there are not bad dogs but there are bad owners of dogs! So your pit is safe around your children if you are a good owner!

It depends on the dog, you really have to watch them and make sure the children don't get too rough with them. Children can make a dog mean if they're not careful.

They are a fighting breed and should not be around children. They can attack without notice and have many times. You can train them , but you can't not change what they are. Many places require for a person to own one, to be registered with local authoritys. Also that you carry insurance for in case the dog attacks someone. If it does you will be charged as their owner for the damages and posibble criminal charges. other places outlaw them altogether.
