I was diagnosed in October with Breast Cancer, and am interested in a vegetarian diet, mostly to avoid hormones and preservatives. I want to make the change for health reasons, but am completely overwhelmed on where to start. Help?

There are a lot of great veggie cook books out there- anything by Sarah Kramer or from the Moosewood Restaurant or a book called Vegan Vittles is amazing, and also The Comassionate Cook is good too. Don't get discouraged, there is a ton of great veggie food out there!

A vegetarian diet is very healthy choice, and has been known to help many people with cancer. I would suggest doing a web search on Vegetarian & Vegan, Vegetarian forums. There is a wealth of information. Are you looking for recipes, or just general information. I also agree that reducing/eliminating milk and dairy can also really make a big difference. I have a soy milk maker and it was the best appliance I ever have purchased.

if you look on the Viva website it can give you a lot of ideas on where to start and receipe ideas. There are a lot of vegetarian cook books available and even in the supermarkets you can buy vegetarian meals and meat alternatives until you build up your knowledge. I would not recommend drinking cows milk though like the other response suggested. Recent eports are highlighting just how bad this is for you and can contribute towards cancerous growths. Brocoli is very rich in calcium and ther are plenty of milk alternatives available. Soya milk is very good for you and reduces cholestrole. Try the different types to suit your taste, if you don't like the 1st one you try the try a drink make. I drink soya and there are some i find too sweet or waterery so go with what suits you. Good luck, this is a very good move not just for your own health but for the Planet.

Yes, you are right. Thats a great thinking. Well, u should consider vegetables rich in iron and fibres like spinach and other greeen leafy vegetables which are rich in other minerals too! Try to take milk more. Around 300 ml of daily milk would be good for health. Other vegetables u can try are carrots, radish, amla, beetroot, capsicum, garlics, onions and tomatoes. These all are good for health. Consider doing yoga on a regular basis and that would be a good start!
