Within a mathematical context:- A Row is the succesion of 'place holding' of a numerical system. e.g. 123 is a 'shorthand' way of telling us there are 1 times 100 and 2 times 10 and 3 units to be considered. (3 + 2 times 10 + 3 times 10*10) and so on. A Column is a means of defining a collection of numerical values in a vertical array in such a manner that the 'place holders' can be grouped together at a glance. This convention is true of any numerical system or 'base' ie decimal; hex; binary etc.
