I have a pit/german shep. mix female, two years old. Very sweet, loving and playfull. She got fleas about two months and go and it set off some nasty skin allergies. I took care of the fleas on her and my house but her skin wounds that she's created on herself are not closing. Just when it looks like they are healing, she scratches them open again. She has also started on her Right ear. I am at my whits end, I am worried sick for my little baby doggie. I've tried lots of stuff, the best stuff that can atleast keep her comfortable is the hydrocordison sprays applied about three times a day but it's been difficult. I can use some help. Steroids are not an option because it shortens their lifespans and causes other health problems. Thanks

My dog had bad flea dermatitis, he turns bright red, itches like crazy. He ended up having to get a cortizone shot, cured it right up. Every once in awhile if he starts acting up, I'll give him a benadryl, but I'd talk to your vet first to find out a proper dosage for that. Yours will probably need some antibiotics for the sores, also may need to test for other skin problems like mange or mites.

Oh yes, she's had several of those but they only last about a week. The vet's suggested is to put her on steroids. I've heard of Benadryl and found out that it's 1 cm. per 10 lbs. I tried it only once but haven't because I am a bit nervous about it. She was also on antibiotics and thank god there is no infection yet. Tell me if these sound familiar. When she goes outside, comes in. Her skin on her rash looks like she has blisters almost. It's not quit blisters but that's what they resemble. Have you ever seen that?

Do you guys have fire ants in California? That's almost what it sounds like. When I lived in Florida, the fire ants were real bad there, even I'd come in from outside with little red spots with blisters inside of them. Now the spots/blisters are small, not huge. If that doesn't sound like it, you should go back to the vet for his opinion. Maybe doing the steroids for a short period of time for it to heal up.

Have you tried putting Sufodene on the sores. Do you give her a lot of bathes? Sometimes that can dry there skin and make it itch bad. Also does she lose her hair in the spots? I would also be sure its not the mange. These are some things I would try if she's not allergic to the Sufodene.
