its strange aint it? u dont realise the value of something unless u lose it... i keep understanding the meaning of this statement a lil day by day... my grandma almost lost her life due to lack of blood of her rare blood type... AB-....
we ran from pillar to post in search of a donor... most bloodbanks dint have it!! thankfully my college had a NSS(national service scheme) unit at college... which kept a list of collg student along wid their blood types... and we were lucky to find someone who had tht blood group.. or so we thought!!... the chap was too scared to donate!! dont knwo y... he was healthy and all tht... but he was reluctant... i almost went to pieces... finally, at the nick of time, another chap from a differnt college contacted me saying he was willing to donate....
no wonder its said tht help comes from the most unlikeliest places!! this guys wasnt even the type i even socialise wid!! i am totally humbled by this experience of mine...
and i can say wid no doubt at all.... the greatest deed possible is blood donation...
so please donate ur blood, wenever possible... it cud save a life!!

I do agree that BLOOD DONATION is the noblest thing in this world. I had never donated blood in my life but I have always encouraged my friends to donate the blood and they have done the same. Every month in my college there was a day for blood donation and almost all my friends had donated the blood and I feel proud of it that my friends as doing a very noble thing. I did not donate blood because of some medical reasons as i was having less weight at that time. But I think now I am healthy enough to donate blood and so I am planning to donate blood on my birthday.

To give blood for transfusion to another person, you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old or 16 years old if allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days). "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, "healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.
Other aspects of each potential donor's health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood count (hemoglobin or hematocrit) are measured.
Making donations for your own use during surgery (autologous blood donation) is considered a medical procedure and the rules for eligibility are less strict than for regular volunteer donations

I totally agree with you. The biggest gift anyone can give is the gift of life and hope. Its really sad how some people die during the festive season simply because they were involved in an accident and there wasnt enough blood for an ungent operation. I donate blood myself, although not as much as I want to. I hope more people donate blood too!

Yeah blood donation is one of the most noblest work..I consider..because it gives more satisfaction to save someone's life than merely feeling sad for losing blood...
I personally feel that living someone's his life back is the most noblest work to the mankind.....

It is noble job indeed. I am working with an organization named "Badhon" that works for blood donation campaign. And i have already donated blood 9 times as my age is only 21. Hope to continue this noble job through out my life. I would request everyone to come forward for this noble job.

how true!!!u dont realize d value of sthg until u lose it..
i had d opportunity to donate my blood to a lady in regional cancer centre. my group is A+..
i week later, my dad a heart surgery n A+ was required..d doc wudn't lemme do it, he said it was too early..i guess they take blood only if u havn't donated for a couple of weeks..
i sure was in a sticky situation when one of my frnzz in college turned up to donate for my dad..
by god's grace my dad's doing fine now.
