Like everyone will tell you: it depends what you want to do and how much money you have. For example: if you're running scientific simulations, the current intel P4 chips generally give better bang-for-buck than AMD equivalents because their higher clock speeds. If you're concerned about breaking the 4GB memory barrier, you might want to forget consumer chips altogether. If you're buying a retro chip, you might want to go for AMD because the motherboards generally allowed higher maximum system memory. Personally, I think Intel have got the edge in the current market, but that's partly just because of circumstances.

For home use using anything multimedia such as video and audio conversion and playback and all kinds of other things that a novice user would do inc gaming amd are or WERE the best. Recently intel bought out some chips that are the fastest on the market you could call them consumer chips, and they have dropped their prices so they currently seem to rule the market. The p4 chips are old now as far as chips go they may not be old as in a years old but as a technology thing they are. but still intel is on top at the moment but and were always better from the start of the athlons as far as speed and home use goes. Intel are better for business use really i see manytests online amd vs intel and they almost always use programs that either people havent heard of or theres very little use for them in the home so even though sometimes intel seem to have the upper edge on the tests dosent mean they are faster. End of the day it depends what you use your computer for as to which is the better amd or intel and for my usage amd have been the best for a long time.

I'm using ang INTEL right now for my desktop but comparing it to my sister's laptop which has an AMD, I'd say that AMD is quite faster

i prefer AMD since i am using one.I use AMD because --comparatively cheap --high performance --high stabilty --greater support for gaming i recommned AMD FX 64 bit computing. It has many advantage over intel pentium 4 processors.but i heard that intel pentium duo core2 is much better than other precedures and a like performance with AMD 64.so i f you are going to buy a new computer either you go for AMD FX 64 or Pentium 4 Duo core 2. thank you!

amd for me, i used to like pentium up until pentium 3 but then i found amd performing much better in home use so i have always bought and since then i have always bought amd processors. up until recently amd were faster and cheaper than intel although it seems intel are biting back now.
